Bridge Nine Signs Mother Of Mercy

Bridge Nine Records has signed Mother of Mercy. The band will enter the studio this Summer to record new album. More info after the jump.

Here's official statement from the label [link]:

Bridge Nine is excited to welcome one of two new artists to their roster - first is one of the hardest bands coming out of Pennsylvania, Mother of Mercy. Formed in the Spring of 2007 and featuring ex members of Let Down, Mother of Mercy plays contemporary metallic hardcore that draws some of the best elements of 90's 'core with a well-executed tinge of metal. Their music is raw, abrasive and dark - highly influenced by Samhain, Undertow and Obituary - and a welcomed addition to the B9 family. Mother of Mercy's vocalist, Bob Wilson, said "...we're excited to be on the label, to play with different bands, tour exotic places and be label mates with Striking Distance."

Mother of Mercy has spent the last several years on the road alongside bands like Comeback Kid, Dead Swans, Cruel Hand, Title Fight, Foundation, Alpha & Omega, and playing staple hardcore festivals like United Blood, This Is Hardcore, and Sound and Fury. With several prior releases including the No Eden 7" and critically acclaimed III that was released last year on Six Feet Under Records and hailed as one of ScenePointBlank's "favorite records of the year", Mother of Mercy's upcoming Bridge Nine debut full length will be nothing less than stellar. Expect the band to hit the studio early this summer and stay tuned for details on a full-length release later in 2010.

Fast and pissed off youth crew from UK with a strong SxE message. They definitely provide good soundtrack for some circle pit action. Here's a short interview with the band.

Fast and pissed off youth crew from UK with a strong SxE message. They definitely provide good soundtrack for some circle pit action. Here's a short interview with the band.

When did the band get together and how?
The band as it is now originally started in 2007 with Me Mike, Smit and Gio. We were members of bands around in manchester at that time and we wanted to do something different to what was around at the time. We have gone through a few line up changes since then but we have never changed our message and we are all still straight edge and will continue to be.

Who are your Influences'
Are influences are bands like Carry On, Project X, Floorpunch and Chain of strength.

How do you think the scene is doing in England and Worldwide?
In England it pretty much depends on where you play. There are places that are better than others. Theres not really that many bands in the Uk that play our style of Hardcore so we're in a minority in that respect but when you go to shows everyone has fun and appreciates all the bands (usually) so its ok I guess.
As for worldwide, I know the scene is pretty big in Europe. We played a couple of shows in Europe recently and we all loved it. Austria was really good. We would love to play more shows overseas and and we're always open to offers.

Have you any shows planned in Middle/Eastern Europe?
Nothing booked as of yet but I think we are planning to do a few shows next year so hopefully that will work out ok.

Where do you most like to play live?
Theres no specific place that we most like to play but generally we prefer smaller venues. This is because there always seems to be more energy and the bands seem to get a better reaction.

Who would be your favorite band to share a stage with?
Im sure we all have different opinions of that and we'd disagree but in the past we have played with some great bands like Down to Nothing, No Turning Back and Internal Affairs. They were probably the best.

What Are you working on In The Studio At The Moment?
We have just finished re recording songs for our new record which should be out before Christmas. We recorded them with Gav our guitarist and he did all the recording and mixing. We have two new songs on our page so check them out if you're interested.

What Are Your Main Lyrical Influences when you are writing songs/records?
You would be better asking Smit, Im not sure what his main lyrical influence is but I guess he just writes about the hardcore scene and life in general.

Do you have any specific rituals for the studio or just go in and play?
Dunno just play I guess.

What do you think the high point has been for the band so far?
Im not sure really there has been many highs. Personally i think there is a new high point everytime we get a good reaction at a show.

Una Vida / Monsieur Po - Split

This CD is the first time I have a chance to hear both bands that are featured here. First part of it belongs to Spanish owned Una Vida. Their style can be described as a heavy old school hardcore with some new school influences.

They sound promising, but they’re not yet there. Although well executed, their music is too predictable in my opinion. They got some good ideas, but they need to step their game up and add some more power to their sound. The production is just right for this type of hardcore. This split is their first official release and it’s a decent start, but these guys have a long way to go.

Monsieur Po ante things up a little bit displaying more metallic approach. The tempo is diverse and on the whole the band is good at varying the music. They’ve got a good thrashy vibe now and then. There’s no shortage of fast parts but there are lots of breakdowns in the songs as well. I like the production, it’s dirty but still fat and meaty. I am definitely down for checking their next recordings.

While I wasn't blown away by this record, I can certainly appreciate good work both bands are displaying here

First Blood posted new song from the upcoming album

First Blood posted new song from the upcoming album, Silence Is Betrayal. We've been hearing about this album since about 2008 and it's kinda surprising that it took them so long to release it. Check it out here. Official press release from Trustkill after the break

The Bay Area's heaviest band will hit the studio in January/February of 2008 to record their follow-up album with producer Zach Ohren (All Shall Perish). Expect the crushing hardcore/metal you have come to love from FIRST BLOOD with more lyrics that will question everything around you. GET STOKED!

Singer Carl Schwartz said "Thankfully there hasn't been a shortage of stuff in the world to be pissed-off about, so this upcoming album will be nothing short of brutal - and quite possibly the most critical, condemning, and controversial material we will ever release. For fans of FIRST BLOOD - Yes, this album will be every bit as heavy and crushing as the first, and then some. But the focus of this album resides in the message. There is simply too much going on in the world today to ignore, and if we are going to dedicate our time and lives to writing music and constantly touring the world while getting very little in return, then we might as well make it worth it and MAKE A F***ING STATEMENT. I find this world becoming increasingly hostile while the powers that be continue to undertake massive efforts to induce us all into passivity, conformity, and false sense of comfort. Well, life is not comfortable and it is our turn to stir the pot."

Life Of Agony and I Scream Records sign worldwide deal

I Scream Records is very excited and proud to welcome Life Of Agony to the family.

On Saturday April 3rd 2010 I Scream Records will be recording & filming Life Of Agony's performance at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Belgium, the second show of their exclusive European "20 Years Strong" tour. In late 2009 the band performed their debut album "River Runs Red" in its entirety during a few exclusive, sold out, US shows and now, after popular demand, they're also heading over to Europe to perform a set built around this amazing, legendary album.

The release of this "20 Years Strong" live album, which will also include a free bonus DVD of the complete show at the Ancienne Belgique, exclusive footage and much more, is set for early this Summer.

Crossover-metal kings, Life of Agony, formed in the summer of '89 and quickly built a cult-following upon the release their now classic, debut album, "River Runs Red" released through Roadrunner Records. The band's unique sound and honest lyrics have captivated audiences for two decades now. In celebration of this huge milestone, the group has been performing the record that started it all!!

"We're really excited to capture this moment in time. Twenty years, man, that's no joke! If you would've asked us when we were kids growin' up in Brooklyn, if we thought that we'd ever make something this important to people around the world, we probably would've laughed in your face. But, here we are, still selling out shows after all this time and turning people's tragedy into hope. Somehow, through the music, we've helped a lot of folks out there. And that's what's always been most important to us." - LOA Bassist, Alan Robert

Laurens Kusters says: "We're very excited about this collaboration. This will be an amazing release, recorded at the Ancienne Belgique, one of the most exclusive European clubs, in Brussels Belgium, the city where I Scream Records was founded in 1994."

Cheech - Pagan

Cheech - People Against Goodness And Normalcy to be released by NGS

NGS will reissue P.A.G.A.N. from the Boston outlaws Cheech. Here's the official statement from the NGS:

Six new tracks plus 5 old hits from Boston's biggest headache. Fans of Blood For Blood and Wisdom in Chains should be all over this. Even has guest vocals by the Rev. Paul Bearer of Sheer Terror. Their best outing to date, but don't just take my word for it...

"CHEECH's vocals and tuff-but-catchy riffs reminded me of BLOOD FOR BLOOD... worth checking out if you're the type of person who goes to hardcore shows to let off some pent-up aggression in the pit. Looks like Boston is back on the map" -Maximum Rock N' Roll.

"Heavy hardcore sees the Boston dudes progressing even more so than on "Ante Up". An amazing blend of Hardcore, metal, punk and thrash. Straight gruff vocals are placed perfectly over pummeling drums, brilliant bass lines and heavy thrashy riffs." -EmptyhandsPVD

"CHEECH play metal-tinged NYHC reminiscent of BLOOD FOR BLOOD, MADBALL and with a touch of GANG GREEN – it’s heavy and forceful but melodic and catchy too. Paul Bearer from SHEER TERROR makes a guest appearance on their second track which is a seal of approval for sure" -No Front Teeth Zine

Unless you're new around here, you know that Maximum Rock n' Roll hates us, and we hate them. So that's a pretty good stamp of approval right there.

Unit 731 recording new album

Pittsburgh heavy weight hardcore champions Unit 731 are working on new album. Haven't heard any of the new songs yet but reading what bands got to say about it, it's gonna be nothing but dope.

Here's what band posted on their myspace blog:

We began tracking our new record "res ipsa loquitur" on March 10th with Dave Piatek in Cleveland. Dave recorded and mixed our last record and we're excited to be working with him again. It's been three years since we recorded "A Plague Upon Humanity" and both Dave and us have gained valuable experience that will make this record great. We expect to finish it mid-may after it's mastered and the artwork we're awaiting is delivered. This won't be another typical beatdown record. In fact, the only thing "beatdown" about it is that it's much heavier than our first full length. Although "A Plague Upon Humanity" holds a special place in our hearts, it was our freshman effort and was created with a shifting lineup. Prepare for much faster, more aggressive songs on "res ipsa loquitur." This outcome of this record is the reason we formed this band. We can't wait to show you what we've created.

If you're wondering about the album title, this is a latin phrase literally meaning, "the thing speaks for itself." This record differs from the last not just musically, but lyrically as well. Each band member has made contributions that attain a personal level that "Plague" did not. This is literally a reflection of our thoughts and feelings on the state of the world and humanity.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information about the release in the coming weeks. Right now we're shooting for sometime in June. We'll post tracks online a few weeks before and we'll have a release show in the Western PA area. We'll probably set up a pre-order as well. - Eric and UNIT 731

Throwback Wednesday: Madball - Down By Law

Dynamo Open Air '95

Oppugno - Oppugno

Being familiar with the band’s previous effort, I can’t say that this new album came as a surprise. Although, even with thefirst listening I could tell they made a progress when it comes both to song writing and musical skills. The meat of their music is still heavy, crunchy hardcore that falls somewhere between Hatebreed, Born From Pain and Merauder, but this time it all sounds more fresh and moving then before.

The fast parts got faster and in the result, breakdowns sound much more powerful. Daniel, the man on the mic here, is doing a great work here, his deliverance sounding aggressive and convincing. Overall, this time Oppugno managed to pour more emotions into their sound, and I’m talking the proper hardcore emotions like anger or hatred not some lousy ass whining about losing a girlfriend or shit like that. I can’t say much about the lyrics since they’re all sung in Spanish and there’s no English translation but there’s a deeper meaning to them since there’s a quote from Michael Bakunin, Francesc Ferrer or Yosana Akiko to all of them. This selection of names should give you a hint what Oppugno are all about.Overall, the album has a solid replay value and will keep you wanting more.

Barcadia will start recording their new album in March

Reno straight edge pride, Barcadia, are working on new album which will be called Abaddon. This one is also going to be released Seventh Dagger records. Here's what the band got to say about it:

"Recording begins March 27th for our second release via xSeventh Daggerx Records (whatever stigma surrounds the label does not and will not matter as our relationship with xSDx has always been good).
The new effort will be much darker, much heavier and full of unusual and horribly overcast sounds, static, notes and humming; a surreal and terrifying post-apocalypse spit directly in your disgusting face.
A portion of the proceeds from every cd sold will go to www.rainn.org to help them with their efforts. "

Stand United

Mosh obsessed hardcore coming from Iowa. Angry vocals, breakdowns that go hard and tight rhythm section is what to be expected of them. If you're fan of this type of stuff, this might be a treat.

Name: Stand United

Location: Des Moines, Iowa

Active since: Summer 2008

How do you define your overall style?
Straight Edge Mosh!

What’s your goal with this band?
We have many goals, we add new ones and check old ones off the list all the time. It started out, that we wanted to play some solid shows in our area, then tour, then get signed. So we'll see what's next!

What do you have recorded so far?
We have put out 2 demos and we are currently in the process of recording our debut full length.

How did you all meet and how long have you all been a band?
We all met through the Des Moines hardcore scene, the current lineup has only been around for 2 months.

Who are your influences?
The Acacia Strain, Hatebreed, Bury Your Dead, Too Pure To Die, Throwdown, Terror, & First Blood all directly influence our sound.

Is everybody in the band straight edge?
Yes

And does it come across in your music?
Boldly.

How did you get involved in the SxE lifestyle personally?
Listening to heavy music, and a lot of the bands we were listening to and looked up to were straight edge bands.

What was so special about it that appealed to you?
What made straight edge so special to us was that the bands we were listening to were so in your face about it, which made it super easy to look up to bands like that.

What’s happening with hardcore scene in Iowa?
It's starting to get better again, new bands are starting every week it seems like. It's reshaping into something good.

What can we expect from you guys in the future?
We have really big news coming soon, keep posted @ myspace.com/standunitedhardcore

Thanks so much for your time. Any final words for the people out there?
2010 is gonna be the year of SU, keep a look out for us!

Clenched Fist - Just Like Roaches

Trying to top your first album isn’t always an easy task, especially when the album was Welcome To Memphis. But somehow, I was sure that this band just cannot fail. There is no doubt they have a certain item in their music which they seem to have homed in on over the years and which makes their music more vibrant and moving than others in their league.

More than a couple times on this album, the arrangements and musicianship far outstrip the work they did on Welcome To Memphis. There might be not much deviation in their style, but my impression is that the songs are more complex and varied while still being focused on an aggressive side of hardcore. But the meat of the album is still old school grooves with metal touch. They just do what they’re best at and no doubt it works.

Clenched Fist can assault you with s straight up hardcore part, but also pull back the tempo into more of a metal influenced style. Not many bands can do it better. I’m not saying that the album is flawless, but hardcore music is not supposed to be perfect so I don’t care. The production is ok and there’s a nice balance with no instrument buried in the mix but I remember hearing demo version of Rat Race and I think I like that rawer recordings better.

More often than not it does, Just Like Roaches burst of pure energy that barely gives you a moment of rest. It’s the album that their fans have been waiting for since Clenched Fist first hit the scene.

Bloodstained - Wrath Innate

The sickest, the heaviest, the most depraved of what Polish hardcore got to offer are back with another slab of brutality. I like the direction this band is going - they started as a generic beatdown band but were able to develop style of their own adding a lot of darkness to their sound. This one is taken from their latest album - Saliga. Get it here!

Damnation Alley - Careerist

Albany hardcore that will take you back to the 90' raw and dirty sound. Damnation Alley brings to mind names like Stigmata, Pushbutton Warfare, Neglect or even Pantera. More info on the band here.

Straight To Your Face signed to Demons Run Amok

The restless folks at Demons Run Amok have just inked a deal with another powerful hardcore posse. This time it's Straight To Your Face, a band which most of you are probably familiar with, and if not, you should give 'em a try by clicking here. They're working on a new album which will be called "The Struggle"

Here's what the band posted in their myspace bulletin:

We are very proud to annonce that we have just inked a new record deal, with the gearman label, Demons run amok.
Its an honor for Straight to your face to be a part of the DRM famiglia, and we are all, very much looking forward, to the new partnership.
We will hit the dead rat studio in Aahus, next monday, the 15 of marts and will stay there, in Jacob Bredahls loving and tender arms, for to weeks, till the record is done. So that Jacob can mix and master the new STYF album after we are gone.
The title for the new album is...The Struggle...and its says all about what we vent through, to get this brutal and sick new album out, and still standing as a band, stronger than ever.
BUT we are back, last man standing, no turning back...Hell Yeah!!!
Look the fuck out, for this new album coming out on Demons run amok!!!

Black Friday 29 to start 'Concrete Help' foundation

Here's a good example that all it takes is good will and you can make a change. The German hardcore band Black Friday 29 is setting an example for all of us collecting the money on all of their shows for the last couple of years to donate it to their godchild. Now, they're planning to start a foundation of their own called "Concrete Help". Here's what Björn from BF 29 got to say about it:

It has been almost two years since Black Friday 29 has decided to turn words into action. In our personal lives we always try to be the best persons we can, but we also wanted to put the bands message into something positive, into something others can benefit from. To support a little child as a our godchild was our goal, but it seemed never enough for me. It was a good beginning though.
We have always kept on talking about doing more, perhaps founding an incorporated, non-profit association.
As some of you might know, we had been carrying a piggy bank to most of our shows and collected money to donate this to our godchild. It has been very succesful in the last few months, considering the foundation we donate the money to (www.plan.de) doesn't want us to send more than 2 shippings per year. After we have send two shippings over to our godchild in Nicaragua, we still had money left over. Consequently your donated money went to the foundation PLAN to help the people in Haiti.
I have always believed in possible positive changes the HC scene can bring or at least take part in. Seeing that the donations went so well was proof enough for me.
So I have spoken to my bandmates and some other friends connected to the HC Scene and took the bigger step to found an incorporated, non-profit association. We still need to do the paperworks for the institutions, but this will be done within the next 3 or 4 weeks.
So don't be surprised to find a different piggy bank box on the merch table of Black Friday 29. It will from now on all be donated to "Concrete Help", the Hardcare way! Our godchild will still be supported as before!

Support this cause and don't be greedy when Black Friday 29 is playing your town!

Here are some of the designs:

Bulldog Courage - From Heartache To Hatred

The band have been making plenty of noise in recent months with this release and that is sure to continue. Top quality shines throughout all of the tracks and the moment album opener ‘Where I've Been’ hits you know this album gonna be dope.

Reminiscent of classic hardcore acts like Madball, Agnostic Front or Blood For Blood, they add a lot of punk rock flavor to their sound at times sounding like Combat 84 or Last Resort would sound if they went hardcore. It’s got a pretty beefy sound and all of the songs are filled with fury, authenticity and testosterone. Breakdowns, sing alongs, circle pit parts – everything is here. Every time I put this album on play it just grabs me by the ear and demands me to play over and over again. Along with that come some of the brutally honest lyrics I’ve heard in a while in hardcore. The lyrical element isvicious, powerful and moving. Forget about all the petty bullshit numerous bands have been feeding you for years, Bulldog Courage deals strictly with real life themes and is not for the weak of heart. Crew, family and tattoos - this album is one of those rare gems that can make you realize what hardcore is really about.

“From Heartache To Hatred” has all the punch and impact a power-packed hardcore album should. It is listenable from front to back and there’s no weak track here. Drop everything and go listen to this, I guarantee satisfaction.
