Overreact Interview

If you're into metallic hardcore the way it was done back in the 90', the debut ep by Overreact will leave you floored. Seriously, the band got that style on lock in a way they hook up gritty and raw hardcore with heaviness of metal. It's a short piece of art, but the band made sure each tracks on it rips. Check out the interview to learn more about these dudes.

Tell us something about your background. Overreact is not your first band - what projects had you been involved in before starting Overreact?

It has been more than 10 years, we wander in the meanders of hardcore, punk and metal.
We have all four good experiences in this kind of music. Each Overreact's member experimented and led several bands ranging from basic street punk rock to death metal, old school hardcore to metalcore crossover. We are a team of old welded buddies. Some projects have been realized, successfully or not. Groups like spitfight, battling siki, cold steel, 26 dead rats, aim for da head, solstis, and many others...

So, how did everything get started with Overreact and how is it different from your previous bands?

Life is full of surprises! New departures, new comers! No problem! Everything began from the cold steel's ashes. Each overreact's member brought his sensitiveness and musical influences. After a few months of research and experimentations, the result was there! Four tracks, which revisit our love for the 80's and 90's hardcore crossover. We merged metal and hardcore punk influences to create hearing bombs! The lyrics are the reflection of our war, our hopes; we decided to show the dark sides of the modern world.

You just put out a debut 4 song 7"/ Ep. Can you tell us about that?

The EP has been recorded in Colmar (Grillen stage) in April 2013 by Stephane Azam, crown's guitarist singer, a fucking doom metal band ! This record was made in 2 days: we followed the rules of a “one shot” recording, which means that every sound recording had to be the good one! This kind of performance forced us to give the best of ourselves. We hope we achieve that...

Knives out Records is legit, how did you hook up with them?

We know TonR from Providence since his band played with Spitfight during a small tour. Sad, a brother of mine, recommend him to throw an ear on our music. Suddenly, Knives out records contacted us to work together and they helped us to release our first EP on the label.

Will the album eventually be available for purchasing?

Of course! You can purchase the limited 7inch EP on Knives Out Records, you could also get it to overreact's gigs or download it on our bandcamp.

Were there any specific albums that influenced the writing of the debut EP?

Hell yeah ! “Hang in there” by Neglect, “Breaking point” by Next step up, “Sum of all fears” by All Out War and many others!

I cannot find any lyrics for the ep but from what I was able to decipher it's all dark and grim. Was there any specific event or that inspired this negative tone?

All lyrics are inspired by the emergence of a crisis at all levels. We are fed up with too many beautiful speeches and silly grins, led by opportunist political institutions, religious and moralizing hypocrites. The executive class strut and judge the lower classes. They live in luxury and they preach against our deviant behaviour. Paradoxically, we repeat the behaviour of the weirdo who are leading us.
Our lyrics speak about the misunderstanding that we always repeat the same mistakes and how we have to fight our own enemy. Ourselves by ourselves. We don't claim to have any truth or knowledge, but this band and our sound is one of the way to pacify our anger. By doing some positive things such as express ourselves,

How do you think world gonna end?

By human hands...

Favorite Clevo band?

Difficult question... The Spudmonsters.

Do you have any shout outs or anything that you would like to say ?

Well, we are full of current events. First of all we are composing and writing our new EP which will be recorded in September. We also look for any place to play. To anybody, don't hesitate, contact us, book us, we just need Gas for the truck and electricity for the Rock.

Finally, soon, we'll release a special tribute track for old school death metals fans. I won't say more about that. So stay tuned.
