Hardway Interview

Towards The Light, recently released output by Italy-based Hardway, showcases the band at its best. Fast, intense hardcore executed with a solid flow and great musical production. There’s a lot of energy to these songs, but you can’t help sensing the feeling of anger, dirt and pain creeping through. Almost five years into its existence, the band seems to finally have found its playing sound. Here’s the short interview with the band about the new EP.

There’s a lot of energy to these songs, but you can’t help sensing the feeling of anger, dirt and pain creeping through. Almost five years into its existence, the band seems to finally have found its playing sound. Here’s the short interview with the band about the new EP.
Tell us something about the upcoming EP, "Towards The Light"? Is there any major difference compared to your last album?
Towards The Light is the new EP coming out really soon on StrikeDown Records, it contains 5 tracks we've written and arranged during the last 2 years. Compared to our last album (Hold Out To The Last) is more intense and visceral, we've tried to search a raw sound, less metallic without the drum trigger and other studio effects. It's definitely more mature, the gloomy lyrics describing anger, hope, pain and dreams in drastic visions. We're really satisfied about it.

Towards The Light - what does this title mean to you?
It means to always follow what you’re looking for, if you got a target, do all what you need to find and reach it. The Light suggests you the way to carry on and don't lost during the route.

When do you think the EP will be released?
In the first months of 2012.

Have the recent political and economical issues in Italy affected you personally or how you run the band in any way?
It will touch all of us indirectly, causes the increase of property taxes, on market prices, retirement prospects, we are all involved.

Do you have any opinion about the ongoing crisis in Italy, and Europe in general? How do you think it will evolve?
The crisis of 2008 was umpteenth time equation gone badly because of political speculation of banks and the average citizen who was addressing them as if it was an information door not considering the possible implications of their maneuvers debt.
Said that, in the near future we think that there will be a more significant gap between rich and poor even with current measures, if they can contribute to limit the stock of public debt does not facilitate the recovery and not even the development necessary to restart the economy.

What’s next after the EP is released? Do you have any other tours planned?
We're planning some shows to promote the new Ep, but most importantly we're working on new songs that blow your mind and we'll record them soon.

Is there anything else you want to say?
Thank you for interest in Hardway, follow us on facebook and our tumblr because more news are coming with new good tunes! Peace on earth war on stage!

Face Your Enemy to drop new album - Message In A Bomb

Message In A Bomb is new album but Italian powerhouse Face Your Enemy. It will be released by Urban Discipline Records. The album includes nine tracks which sound is pure beatdown/hardcore with some rap influences. If you're a fan of Madball, Deez Nuts, Beastie Boys and Nasty this might appeal to you. You can listen to all of the new songs here.

Anti You -Two Bit Schemes Cold War Dreams

Looking at the cover I expected some straight up dirty and raw crust or anarcho punk but in the end I got some upbeat and fast old styled hardcore/punk. I can’t say I wasn’t pleasantly surprised. The album starts off with a bang – Lobotomizer Man is a fast and damn catchy piece of hardcore with powerful, yet melodic guitars and tight beat. The rest of the songs don’t let down in intensity either, resulting in an aggressive hybrid of the best elements of hardcore, punk and rock’n’roll. This CD combines the new album, as well as Johnny Baghdad Ep and Pig City Life Ep. There’s not many musical or sound quality differences between the releases which means it’s all fun from start to finish. The true highlight of the album is the ability of the band to perfectly blend the positive punk aggression with melody. There's a whole load of catchy hooks, decent leads, crazy sing alongs and some absolutely brilliant vocals. Man, I tell you, some of these gang choruses can stick in your head for days! The tunes are ridiculously simple and catchy but far from being cliché. From the break-neck tempos to more melodic passages, this albums is pure win from start to finish. I can’t believe they’re not from Cali!

Reprisal's Boundless Human Stupidity re-released by Customcore

France-based Customcore Records has re-released the classic Reprisal album - Boundless Human Stupidity. This new exclusive digipak edition comes with new master and 2 bonus tracks in ! This is how the label describes it: Reprisal blow away the competition with their awesome technical Edgemetal. Somewhat similar musically and lyrically to Arkangel, " Boundless Human Stupidity " attacks the idiocy of mankind destroying our planet. This is what I would call real dance music, infectious to the bone, " Boundless..." calls for a massive pit !

Rise After Defeat - Maieutica

I have always had a soft spot for the Italian hardcore - no matter if it’s Negazione, Wretched, Reprisal, Da Sect or whatever. It seems that no matter what style of hardcore, Italian guys almost always get it done right. Rise After Defeat is from Cagliari and aims for heavy, metallic sound that bridges the intensity of hardcore and a good amount of metal. Despite being around just since the 2008, they already have released a full length in 2009 which I reviewed some time ago on this website. Ok, so I wasn’t blown away by their self titled debut but I still wanted to give Maieutica a try.
This EP has been released in October and contains 4 brand new tracks. What is immediately apparent is that the band has made a big progress since their previous album. I’m glad to say they’re moving into right direction - Rise After Defeat finally delivers a solid piece of hardcore and gives a valiant performance throughout the majority of this short MCD. Their sound has much more focus this time, something that lacked on the previous material. Maieutica demonstrates some good ideas backed by a foundation of solid technical skills. Maybe it's thanks to way better production, but the music is sounding much heavier. The band crafted a fair dose of decent thrashing riffs, double bass, breakdowns and creative drumming. This is metalcore, but the type of metalcore you'd listen to when going to war not when going to buy tight pants or get a douche haircut. For the fans of metallic hardcore sound, this is generally a EP to check out. And all the vinyl freaks keep in mind this shit has been released on 7 inch format!
