Burn The Traitor

Burn The Traitor is beatdown hardcore posse from Austria and as you would expect from this type of band, they keep things heavy with lots of breakdowns, double bass action and hateful deep vocals. I know there are many kids among our readers who like it and personally, I dig what they're doing too so there was no other option than to check out who are these guys and what they're up to.

Name: BURN THE TRAITOR

Location: BRAUNAU / UPPER - AUSTRIA

Active since: END OF 2006

How do you define your overall style?

ITS A MIXTURE OF HARDCORE, METAL AND BEATDOWN

What’s your goal with this band?

FIRST OF ALL FUN! PLAYING MUSIC AS HARD AS POSSIBLE A´ND GIVE PEOPLE WITH OUR LYRICS.

What do you have recorded so far?

IN 2007 WE RECORDED OUR FIRST SELFTITLED EP AND IN JANUARY 2010 WE RELEASED A NEW PROMO DEMO WITH 6 SONGS.

You guys have been going hard lately, what is the latest going on for Burn The Traitor?

THIS WEEK WE PLAYED A SHOW IN SALZBURG WITH OUR BOYS FROM BLOOD BY DAYZ, AND THERE ARE SOME GOOD DATES WE GONNA PLAY THIS YEAR LIKE IN JUNE A SHOW WITH SWORN ENEMY, DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR AND POSTMORTEM PROMISES. AND THERE IS SOME TALKING ABOUT DOIN A EUROTOUR WITH UNIT 732 FROM THE STATES.

You’ve released your first demo recently. Are you happy with what’s happening with that?

BY THE WAY. IT`S OUR SECOND CD AND YES WE ARE HAPPY WITH THAT SHIT. ITS A WELL DONE PRODUCTION FROM OUR FRIEND LUKAS! OUR DEMO IS AVAILABLE AT WWW.FILLEDWITHHATE.COM AND AT OUR SHOWS

What is the feedback you’re getting?

MOST OF THE PEOPLE SAY THAT IT IS A GREAT DEMO. THX!!

Who is who in the band and what is the history behind Burn The Traitor?

I AM PHIL (GUITAR) EBA + DUCE (VOCALS), MAX (GUITAR), MARIO (BASS) MARS (DRUMS).BTT WAS FORMED IN THE END OF 2006 AS A 4 PIECE YOUNG BAND TRYING TO PLAY HEAVY HARDCORE/METAL SOUND. OVER THE YEARS THE LINE UP WAS GROWING TO A BAND WITH 6 MEMBERS. THIS BAND JUST WANT AND ALWAYS JUST WANTED TO PLAY HARD MUSIC, FAR AWAY FROM ALL THIS BULLSHIT TRENDS AND NEW STYLES. WE DO WHAT WE WANT TO DO. THATS OUR HISTORY!

Where did the name Burn The Traitor come from?

THE NAME CAME FROM ONE OF THE FIRST SONGS EVER IN A TIME WHEN THIS BAND HAD NO BANDNAME. SO IT CAMES FROM A BTT SONG CALLED BTT!

How would you describe the sound of Burn The Traitor?

I THINK ITS A GREAT MIX OF HARDCORE, METAL AND BEATDOWN. WE TAKE INFLUENCE OF ALL THIS STYLES OF MUSIC. AN OTHER WORD FOR OUR MUSIC IS: BULLDOZER! ;)

What bands would you say are your biggest inspiration?

HARD TO SAY. OF COURSE THERE ARE SOME BANDS WE LOOK UP TO LIKE MERAUDER, SHATTERED REALM, IRATE, DESPISED ICON AND SO ON... BUT THEY ARE NOT REALLY A INSPIRATION FOR OUR SOUND.

What message are you trying to get across in your music?

OUR LYRICS MOSTLY DEAL WITH PERSONAL STUFF AND A UPFUCKED 2 FACED SOCIETY!

Can you tell us how the hardcore scene in Austria is like nowadays? What are some bands we should check out?

WELL HARDCORE SCENE IN AUSTRIA... HMM... IN OUR AREA AND THE AREA AROUND SALZBURG THE HARDCORE SCENE GOT BIGGER AND BIGGER. ALWAYS GOOD SHOWS. MANY PEOPLE. CHECK OUT UNITED BLOOD FROM SALZBURG. GOOD GUYS! ... ABOUT THE FACT THAT WE LIVE NEAR GERMANY WE HAVE MORE TO WITH THE GERMAN HARDCORE SCENE. WE KNOW MORE PEOPLE OVER THERE. WITH AUSTRIA WE HAVE NOTHING TO DO ACCEPT OUR AREA AND SALZBURG. HERE ARE THE GREAT CLUBSHOWS IN AUSTRIA. ABOUT VIENNA OR OTHER CITIES I DON´T WANT TO START TALKING HAHA

The New Enemy is Toronto based punk rock band. They formed in 2008 but during this short time span menaged to release 2 EPs, appear on countless compilations, tour Canada and USA sharing a stage with likes of Agnostic Front or SNFU. They have just released Shakedown Ep that you can actually download on their Myspace for free!

Let’s start with your recently released EP. The Shakedown is finally out and it definitely lives up to the fans expectations. What are your feelings when you listen to it now and are you happy with the response it’s been getting so far?

I think its the best EP we've done yet....This one was more collaborative as far as the song writing goes, and I think that shows in the tracks. People want you to fit easily into one genre, but we find that kind of restrictive as a band since we like so many styles of music. The response has been pretty good, getting good reviews...I find it takes time for that to translate to an audience..

You guys worked with Simon Head and Nick Zampiello on this one. How was it recording your new EP with these guys? How do you guys work through the process?

Those guys have been great. It's amazing to have guys on board who have been around the block and are willing to share their ideas on how the music should sound.

Could you give us a quick rundown on the lyrics for the new album? Are they important part of New Enemy?

Lyrics range from political, to personal, to short stories in the form of a song. They are definitely important because they express the message you are trying to convey in the first place.

In the age of mp3 downloading it seems reasonable that you guys just put a download link on your website so kids can have these songs legally and for free. Since the EP is also available in physical format, do you think it damaged or rather helped the sales?

Not many bands are selling too many records these days as everyone knows. We thought it would be a better idea to get the music out there to as many people as possible especially since we're a fairly new band. We're not about making money anyway so we really don't care about any damaged physical sales.

How was it sharing a stage with legendary bands like Agnostic Front or SNFU like?

It was pretty amazing actually, especially with a band like Agnostic where they weren't above approaching us after the set and said they liked what we were doing up there. Definitely a compliment coming from a legendary band.

Formed just in 2008 and already with two well received EPs behind your belt. It seems you guys like to work at the fast pace. What is your secret to a balance between playing in a band and living a regular life?

I don't know if there's a secret, but it can definitely be a balancing act. I guess you just have to work hard at everything in life, including bands, music, and personal relationships. So I guess just work hard and don't get discouraged. The results are worth it.

As a Canadian band, what was the toughest struggle? What's the biggest wall to get over?

Canada is not a huge country population wise, so very few bands are able to eke out a living playing music. I guess the biggest wall to get over is general acceptance, especially by the music industry, which tends to be close-minded about something until it breaks huge, and then everyone's like "oh yeah, I've liked that band for AGES.'

So what’s next for The New Enemy? What are your plans for 2010 and beyond?

We are writing and in preproduction for our next release. Trying to decide on doing a full length or an EP...I guess the number of good songs will determine that. We want to be back in the studio by the summer at the absolute latest. Beyond that we're just gigging and doing interviews, spreading the word slowly but surely. The main thing to always remember is that music is supposed to be FUN.

Thanks for the interview. Anything else you got to add?

Thank you! Support your local scene. Decide you like music because YOU like it...don't ever care what anyone else thinks. Cheers.

News from Enemy Ground

Exciting news are coming from the Enemy Ground camp! The band has recorded new tracks earlier this year that will appear as a split release between beatdown bands from all over the globe. There are also plans for the full length that should see the light of day later this summer.

Here's original message from the band:

New Stuff
In the beginning of 2010 we returned into the studio to reset the boundaries regarding European hardcore. The jack studio (http://www.myspace.com/jackstudio) helped us recording three brand new tracks that will proof it’s possible to commit to a vision and goal as a band after being around for 9 years: Take steps and improve musical brutality day in day out.

Release
Two out of the three songs recorded will be release throughout a split program where bands from all over the globe team up to express their love for beatdown music.

The one and only Goodlife recordings will release this album later this summer.

Stay tuned for updates!

MP3
Just to keep you moving we’ve released a web-only MP3 release which is one of our brand new songs: Day of the hammer.

Please make sure to come over to Essen on the 5th of June to break your face during our upcoming show with our Good Friends in the FWH and 17Stiches Family.
