Live by the fist/Tiempos de Honor - Split CD

Live by the fist/Tiempos de Honor - Split CD
xCausticx/Seven Eight Life 2008

Both bands come from South America and both represent political and social aware side of hardcore. Live By The Fist from Brazil sets it off with 4 intense and punishing tracks. You can hear they are really committed to get their point across. I heard some people comparing them to Path Of Resistance but I can’t totally agree.

They had three people doing vocals on their previous record and it was the main reason for that, but now (according to the booklet) the only official singer left is Sandro. Ok, they still use multiple vocal approach but apart from that, I can’t find any other significant similarities. I think heavy old school hardcore with a strong punk feeling are the best words to describe what’s offered here. They keep it fast with lots of shouting vocals, sharp riffs and tight drumming. Lyrically they speak out about injustice of today’s world, consumerism and general state of our society. These 4 songs are a good follow up to their debut CD, No End In Sight. There’s no letting up when Tiempos De Honor takes over. They sound a little bit heavier and more metal than punk, , but the general feeling is the same. Compared to Live By The Fist , they more often make use of mid tempos and there are some really powerful breakdowns now and then. Also, the riffing is more metallic with a slight Slayerish feeling. The vocals are mainly shouted which is not my favorite style of singing and in this case doesn’t work for me. In my opinion, they should have tuned them down in the mix cause they drown out the music a bit. Apart from that, this CD contains some good hardcore tracks that will make you want to get into the moshpit and throw some punches!

„Respect through Fear“ Tour with Unit 731 (USA) & Fallbrawl (Ger)

PERIOD: First 2 Weeks of May

UNIT 731 (USA)
UNIT 731 formed in late 2005 by friends in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. The band's beatdown hardcore sound stays true to the PA hardcore legends they grew up listening to, such as Built Upon Frustration and No Retreat. Other influences like Sworn Vengeance, All Out War, and Merauder have helped the band form a unique identity. The release of the 2006 Demo sparked interest from all over the world, especially Europe. In December 2007 Germany's Filled With Hate Records released UNIT 731's debut full length "A Plague Upon Humanity". The band has maintained solid core members for their entire existence and continues to carve their own niche in heavy hardcore, both lyrically and musically.

FALLBRAWL (GERMANY)
Fallbrawl came to life in 2005 and pretty fast made sure that they were not just another 'we'll be around for a few months'-cliché band. Shows came in pretty fast and the name became known, spawning both lovers and haters in the scene. After countless shows and even more lineup changes (at least it feels like this) Fallbrawl finally found their first real solid lineup in late 2007 with Paddey and Stefan on Guitar, Peer on Drums, Holzi on Bass and Dave on Vocals and then wasted no time. The outcome is called "Cold World".
A nine song monster of modern beatdown-influenced hardcore that takes no prisoners. they manage to mix different styles in a non-boring way, filled with massive gangvocals and bonecracking breakdowns and moshparts. Berlin-based label WARCITY RECORDS handled the european release in June 2008 while ON THE ATTACK RECORDS took care of the American release (which young hardcoreband nowadays does achieve that with their first record?) In celebration of the US-Release, the band went over the pond to play 5 Eastcoast shows with bands like Wisdom in Chains, Hoods, Full Blown Chaos, Homicidal and others and drank about 5000 gallons of beer in ten days.
After another reacent lineup change fallbrawl is joined by long-time friend Andree (also in germany's Circle of Death) on Vocals and are now teaming up with Pennsylvanias UNIT 731 (Filled with hate Records) for a two week European Tour in May.

South Impact - Codex

South Impact - Codex
Deadlight Entertainment, 2008

South Impact is a French band that play style which can be best described as old school hardcore with a strong touch of metal. Their music has a lot of energy & anger pouring out of it. Songs are heavy and fast with nice groove parts and some breakdowns now and then.

Musically South Impact displays a variety of approaches to the genre. Some of the guitar tunes come close to metalcore and thrash and there’s definitely much more going on here in the riffing department that on your average NYHC record. If I had to compare them to someone, think of mixture of in your face attitude of Madball with the intensity of Terror and thrash influences of Sworn Enemy. At the same time, names like Fat Society (their singer does guest appearance here) or Kickback pop to my mind while listening to this. The majority of the material is fast paced, but they aren’t afraid to slow things a little to give the songs more complexity. The production is top notch, giving it heavy sounds that is clear but not over polished. Apart from Bastard and Remy, both known from Fat Society, other guests on this CD include guys from Alea Jacta Est and Another Bleeding Season. This is solid record from a band that definitely deserves more attention!
