Wreckage

Name: Wreckage

Location: Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Active since: Nov. 2007.

Special Move: Brain-thrasher down tuned hardcore for critical people.
Stuff recorded so far: Demo 2008

Is there a theme that runs throughout your lyrics or music?
We try to reflect the need of modern man to get out of the flock and begin to use his brain, the most powerful weapon we have, and fight for all the things we can’t develop inside our society.

What emotions do you hope your music evokes in listeners?
Defiance, scorn, rejection and anger.

What are the bands’ personal influences?
Well, if you ask about lyrics, the main influence is life itself but also some political and philosophical ideas that surround it. If you ask about music, I think we are very influenced by Clevo stuff, Holy Terror bands, Swedish old school death metal and black metal.

What is New World Order in your opinion and what are the main evidences that such thing exists?
NWO was born with the end of the Cold War. It is the practice of a capitalism stripped of any ethical values, where only economical benefits are important. Of course, only the richest people from the richest nations are the beneficiaries of all that, and that is the only reason of maintaining it.

How is the scene in Tenerife? Are there many local bands and shows there and do you have many bands from abroad coming to you?
Well, we have a little scene here in the Canary Islands, we are like brothers. You have Good Fellaz, a great band in a Mental/Righteous Jams style where our bassist Ale plays too ( www. myspace. com/goodfellazhc), you have Mirror Match (www. myspace. com/mirrormatch) , old school flavoured hardcore punk; the melodic hardcore of Sin Sentido ( www. myspace. com/sinsentido07 ) and Milk Fiction (www. myspace. com/milkfiction), 466/64 grinders (www. myspace. com/kafkiano ) or Against All Hope’s metalcore (www.myspace.com/ againstallhopemusic). Unfortunately, we had more bands in the past like Pollution, Take Care or En La Distancia, but due to different circumstances, they have split up. Yes, we can talk about a healthy Canary hardcore scene. We have brought some bands of the Spanish-Portuguese mainland like Versvs, For The Glory, Über, Dias Cruciales or Truth Throght Fight, but it’s a hard and expensive (although comforting) work.

How it is running a band in a place like a Tenerife? What are the main obstacles you have to face to keep it going?
It’s really hard running a band here in the islands. There are only two clubs where the bands can play, you can’t easily find rooms where to practice. If you can gather 100 persons in a concert, you have achieved the impossible. Pure DIY as hard as I’m telling you.

Books and movies everybody should check out?
Well, I’m reading just now John Joseph’s “Evolution of a Cromagnon”, highly recommendable. Personally, I’m a fan of all H.P. Lovecraft literature. Movies like THX1138, Zeitgeist (the movie), Fight Club or Bulworth and you can understand Wreckage’s way of thinking.

What are the future plans for Wreckage?
We’ve been stopped for few months, so our immediate plans are practicing hard and immediately record a new demo with 6 new songs. Then, touring the Spanish mainland and who knows, maybe Europe?

Onesta - We Got Game

Onesta - We Got Game
Goodlife 2008

It’s really hard not to notice the amount of good bands here in Europe that pick up the torch that was ignited by those like Agnostic Front or Breakdown. With the latest successful releases by No Turning Back, 1125, Grankapo or Last Hope, the competition is high and you gotta step up with something special to get noticed. With their first release for Goodlife, Onesta proves they got what it takes.

The band enters the game with a certain freshness and vitality in their sound that make for a really tight record. Onesta are definitely NYHC style and they have much In common with bands like No Turning Back or Madball. The level of song writing and musicianship is good and they deliver some really nice sounding hooks. This is in the finest traditions of the genre and even thought there’s nothing particularly new here that you haven’t heard before, it’s still very enjoyable. Originality is not what I look for in hardcore anyway. They constantly keep the energy level up and that’s what does it for me. The band packs a huge punch of aggression with fat guitar licks and a slamming rhythm section. Even thought the style they play originated in NYC, Onesta remind me mostly of an European band No Turning Back in a way they put the focus on the flow and grooves of the songs instead of just trying to sound hard or heavy. Each track just shoots through the speakers with aggressiveness and energy. The production is a perfect blend between clear sound and the rough edge. If you’re NYHC fan, then you are gonna have a blast with this release.

Senseless

Name: SENSELESS

Location: Thessaloniki (Greece)

Active since: Senseless was founded in October of 2006

Special Move: We are playing aggressive hardcore with a lot of breakdowns and beatdowns. Some of our influences are Terror, Full Blown Chaos, Hatebreed, Bury your dead(early)

Stuff recorded so far: A 3track ep (Friends.Pride.Family) and at the moment we are finishing the recordings of the upcoming album (9tracks and untitled yet)

What is your main inspiration for writing?
We are mostly writing about fake friendships, people who talk behind your back and in front of you they are like: "How are you my friend?"
Go fuck yourselves! We don't need you or want you and we are gonna spread it into our music.
Situations that he have been through and also about some real friends that support us and are like family for us.

How did you come up with that title "Friends.pride.family"?
From our lyrics. "Friends" refers to those guys that hang out with you only if they have something to earn and when you need something they disappear. Pride is for those guys and bands who are talking behind your back and send threats behind a computer screen and when you come face to face with those guys they have nothing to tell you. Family is for all those real friends that are next to us for two years now and for all the kids who support hardcore in Greece known or not

Ever thought of singing in Greek?
Yes, but we have decided to do it in English because we want for more people from other countries to understand our thoughts and we believe that
the Greek language doesn't fit this kind of music. :D

What bands you shared stage with were the coolest to hang out?
SETTLE THE SCORE(GER), LAST HOPE(BG), REDOUND(BG), ONLY ATTITUDE COUNTS(AU), WOOF (GER), ROMEO MUST DIE(UK), EYE OF JUDGEMENT (HOL) AND IN A FEW DAYS BROTHERS IN BLOOD(BG),SHOOT TO KILL(BG) AND THE HAUNTED (SWE).
The greatest people to hang out with was Settle the score and that's because we had a roadtrip from Thessaloniki to Athens and we've got to tell that those guys are amazing! We had a lot of fun and lots of laughing especially with Bud (skase malaka pousti hahahhaha). Apart from Settle the Score we had good times with Redound and Romeo Must Die. Respect guys!

What are Greek bands everybody should give a listen?
All the hardcore bands in our country that support the Greek scene. We give respect to: Overpain, Eden Demise, Die without, Psycorepaths, Furor,
Audioblast, Acidrop, Against the Society, Voidwalker, Go ask Alice and Homicide Effect

Plans for the future? Looking forward to your Italian tour?

Right now the most important thing for us is to find a record label to release our debut album and book us some live shows, so as to promote our work in our country and outside of it. As for our Italian tour we are looking for people that can book us three shows in Italy(any town) 15-16-17 of May with one more band from Thessaloniki.

Under One Flag posted their last recorded track

Message from the band:

"What Lies Ahead" was the last song we ever recorded and the only one with Chad on vocals. Our original singer Dustin was on the "Red" cd that came out on Double or Nothing when Chad was one of our original guitar players who also played guitar on "Red" Dustin left the band shortly before we did the tour with Furious Styles last spring and thats when Chad took over on vocals. "What Lies Ahead" was one of the new songs we started working on with Chad full time on vocals and we wanted to start doin more thrashy style stuff along the lines of Ringworm and Palehorse. This song is the perfect example of the last chapter of this band...go listen NOW to one of our best keep secrets.
