Through This Defiance - Hostility Towards the Opposition

So - one day about 6 weeks ago, i wandered to Skare Tactic's page to see what they are up to and i got directed Through This Defiance. I would not say their is a fluid exchange, but of the same ilk. The whole shared family/ex-current members incestuous feel of Donnybrook/Blood Stands Still/Skare Tactic. Despite the formal connections to the latter, i hear Folsom's sound all over this. Not just the music, but the vocal style, subkect matter, and delivery. If you enjoy any of these bands - you will dig this (not quite the thick metal of BSS, or speed and fury of ST; but it all sounds similar.
Specifics? MidTempo beatdown core. This shit is to get the kids moving on the floor. Chest pounds, pointed finger, stage dives and high fives - and that was just me alone in my room! This is pissed off. heavy, brutal hardcore with that LA street attitude. I do like how they forgo that image - and have that more social aspect in their imagery and name.

To sum up - mostly mid-tempo, high kicking beatdowns. Some songs step it up with faster beats - a great flow and balance between the songs. Double bass creeps in the fray to accompany pummeling riffs that lead to some of the best breakdowns i have heard in a while. Vocals are mostly speak words of street, the system, snake-ass liars, and the crew.

This has been getting constant play from me. Check out "How I'm Livin" & "Still Deceived" for extra heavy, thicker metal vibe; "One Life..." & "Another One..." for that bounce; "Time to Shine", "Generation Lost" "Hometown Hero" are probably my standout tracks for their straight up sore sound and fun time changes; but this whole disc is filled with winners. Big Ups!

FOR FANS OF: Folsom, Bulldoze, 25 ta Life, LA hardcore; somewhere between Mushmouth and Powerhouse...yeah, i said it!

*** and as a side note - in a perfect world; hardcore unity is prevalent and everybody that gets it is down. more variation in ethnicity would be sweet. LA seems like the place to have that happen. so i would hope women are included in this mix - with out but making it a big deal. That being said - when a tough ass band that delivers, also has a hot woman holdin it down - damn! much respect. Punk rock usually attracts the rejected; so, it's nice to see some one with beauty and brains and damn good taste in music.

Spider Crew - Expect The Unexpected

Love them or hate them, Spider Crew are back and they’re still doing their thing. On Expect The Unexpected music is tied to the style band developed on their previous outputs, but at the same time they updated their sound with some fresh ideas.
They definitely have this streetcore sound down quite well and sound comfortable in this league. . The first thing I noticed is that it sounds heavier than their previous albums and I like it that way. Spider Crew is not just copying Agnostic Front riffs, but making this type of music in their own style of NYHC sound. There’s something about their music that when you hear it, you immediately know it’s them. A type of album you listen to it that immediately paints a picture in your head of you fucking the shit up at their live show. From catchy choruses to breakdowns, they keep the energy level steadily high. This is raging and straight forward hardcore with catchy hooks and aggressive vocals. On the production side, thinks are looking better than ever, with raw yet clear sound, making it easy to hear what's going on. I know this is not an album for everybody but if you’re feeling like doing some damage to public property on the Saturday night, this is just a perfect soundtrack.

Seekers Of The Truth - 2 Decades Shunning Masks

I have to be honest – last time I heard Seekers Of The Truth was on „The Nightmare Remains…” compilation about 10 years ago and as far as I remember I liked it. Since then, I haven’t kept a track of what’s been going on with this French band and now it turns out they’re celebrating 20 years of existence with this album.
Seekers Of The Truth might be not the most known group off the French scene, but they’ve been doing their thing for quite a time and this album proves they’re still good at it. I've been jamming this album everyday in my car for the last week and I have to say that they still go strong with an old school sound filled with gang vocals, memorable hooks and powerful vocals. With 20 years under their belt, band knows how to match aggressiveness and melody. Musically, they remind me of bands like Sick Of It Al or Shutdown but I wouldn’t say they sound exactly the same. They have parts made for sick circle pits, but from time to time they get heavier. There are 20 tracks in here but they pack their music with enough life and energy to keep it interesting from start to finish. There are moments here that are totally passable, it would be hard to avoid with such an amount of music, but luckily they’re few and far between. Overall, the band is not crossing any boundaries, but they simply deliver good and honest hardcore. Give it a try if you’re into old school sound!

Narrow View - Always A Price

Narrow View is a band from Canada heavily influenced by classic hardcore sound not unlike Agnostic Front, Slapshot and Negative Approach. I actually got couple of their songs on my hard disk and believe me - they all kick ass! I want to see all the kids moshing to Always A Price!!!
