Review: Backfire! / Cornered - split

More Backfire! and Cornered never sits wrong. Both bands dropped full albums in recent times that were so good that obviously no one expected this split to disappoint. And they didn’t. When I got this shit for review after first listen all I could think about is that what both bands do over here is on the level many others will never reach. Only two tracks in total and from start to finish they give it raw and uncut. There was not a wasted moment in this. Backfire is sending you straight to hardcore heaven with Mosh Minable. The track is sharp and in your face, from chugging rhythms to hard as hell groove to forceful vocals everything gets the job done. Cornered as always delivers beastly tracks blending fury of hardcore and evil of metal to good effect. No doubt Time Has Come delivers that rage that is expected from this band. Raw, bitter, and loveless work of hardcore.

Review: Cornered - Hate Mantras

I admit I am a Cornered fan boy, I am pretty much down with everything they do before it even comes out. The band is one of the hardest and sharpest in Europe and this new album is to prove it. If hard as nail hardcore packed with thug posturing and self-destructive emotions is your bag, then track this one immediately. Hate Mantras knocks out 6 tracks of heavy, punishing hardcore with metallic overtones. The band has ability to make hard-hitting NYHC beat, grimy Clevo heaviness and European vibe flow together to create mean ass hardcore to annoy your neighbors and disgust your girlfriend. Think of something between Breakdown, Ringworm and No Turning Back, if that makes sense.

This record is their best stuff since Living The Lie. It’s way better than Sudden Death, which had its moments but also a deal of less memorable tracks. On this one each track holds its own. On top of it Niels’ attacks his verses in his usual brash fashion carrying this sucker to next level. This dude is a truly disturbed soul and each track is a reminder that violence solves everything.

When it comes to hardcore, I don’t need nothing fancy or groundbreaking. I need it to be raw with healthy dose of aggression. That’s what got me into this in the first place. That’s why I appreciate records like this one that sounds fresh but I don't have to devote too many brain cells to understand what’s going on.I highly recommend to check this short but sweet record.

New Cornered

Cornered, new shit coming soon! Stay put for more info.

New music from Cornered

Fuck, this one came out of nowhere! New tracks from Holland's Cornered, who happen to be one of my favorite current bands. As always, expect nothing but stomping, hard-hitting, reckless hardcore with mean, maniac vocals. What's not to love here?

The tracks serve as a teaser for band's upcoming LP Sudden Death due out early 2015 on Farewell records and you can count me in buying this album. Serve the Beast is my favorite tune so far, but all the 3 new songs rip and definitely got me hyped!

Cornered are dropping a new album - 'Sudden Death'

Cornered are getting ready to release a new album and today we got a taste of the upcoming material. Serve The Beast is a killer tune, if the whole 'Sudden Death' album gonna rip like that they definitely gonna get my money. For real. Check it out below.

New Blood: Bad Attitude

Bad Attitude is a new band from Leeuwarden (Netherlands) area with members of Cornered, Pantah and 0fight8 with a mission to go back in time with their sound. Their first demo is filled with raging, in your face hardcore that kids in 80' and early 90' used to mosh to. If you dig this style, check this out!

Review: Last Dayz/Cornered - Split 7”

LLast Dayz/Cornered - Split 7” (Ratel) - It’s been some time since this one came out and I have already reviewed the new ep from Last Dayz some time ago, but this split is too dope to get unnoticed. Last Dayz comes blasting with 2 tracks, of which both are nothing less than crushing. They can be best described as hard as nails PAHC-styled core that packs enough vicious breakdowns to make you wanna hurt random people with no reason.

Pre-orders for Last Dayz / Cornered split launched

Ratel Records has launched pre-orders for anticipated Last Dayz and Cornered split 7". Last Dayz is a Polish-Pride crazy ass hardcore band def not for fans of reading books. No need to introduce Cornered as they played all over Europe a dozen of times and even US and A where they had a party of their lives. Each band contribures two tracks. This is a 3-labels joint release. If you live in Netherlands, go to The Limit Records, if in Greece contact WAK Records. If elsewhere, pick your favorite label or browse distros.

D.I.Y (Short Hardcore Documentary)

A short documentary on hardcore by Asher Lloyd. Features interviews from Rotting Out, Backtrack, Cornered, Ceremony, Broken Teeth and V Revolution. The author is currently working on a full length feature, this is just a taste.

Cornered - Fuck Off

Wow. No big adjectives or obscure words here. Just "wow". This shit is impressive. Taking a push from NYHC crossover like Leeway, mixing in some present day like Mind Eraser and Rival mob and Terror; but mostly i would liken this to Shipwreck and Living Hell and the most apropos comparison - which coming from me is the biggest compliment - is Palehorse. They sound very similar and i am the most grateful for that. I loved Palehorse. and all that mentioned, this band is from Holland. Anyway, in the landscape of today's hardcore, Cornered stands out. even though i was quick to throw some "For Fans Of..." names, these guys have a distinct sound. Heavy. Cornered however 'influenced' by metal tendencies, definitely stand strong on the hardcore side of the metal core label. I mean can you hear the late 80's crossover compared to 7 Seconds or Uniform Choice? Of course.

but the rhythms pummeling through your speakers are for the moshers. the pit will be satiated. Check the bass intro to the song "Fuck Off". Agnostic Front could have written that. Your ears get cohesive attack from all members and their instruments. Vicious, seething screams from the vocals spit condemnation and warning to this fucked up world. Again, to draw on similarities to Palehorse, there are lyrics of world collapse, illuminati, secret societies in control and the like. Musically, the sharp riffs and quick drums never let you rest. This shit is fast and time changes galore keep you on your toes. and swinging your fists. There is a bounce and the EuroHC sound is in there; which harkens the NYHC love again. this band is so good. "Betrayal" is stand out - so fast! and then the breakdown would be sure to bring down any venue. "Lies" is of the same ilk, crushing riffs sped up forcing all in ear shot swear allegiance and start kicking and punching. i truly can not get enough of this ep - bring on the full length! fo real - this is a refreshing change to some of the formulaic HC out now. and as i said, they ain't re-inventing the wheel, just bringing a sound that is powerful and invigorating. this is on the soundtrack to change and revolution, no doubt. It has the speed, the fury, the hate, and the energy to remain steadfast amid the chaos.
