Fallbrawl - Pure Mayhem

Hate it or love it, Fallbrawl is as German beatdown as it gets. Guys from over there had always their own take on this genre which emphasized heaviness over everything else. Cannot say I am the biggest fan, but I don’t mind couple of bands of this style. In recent years Fallbrawl has emerged as the leading posse doing this shit and basically a band to go to when you feel the urge for that type of sound.

Suffer Survive announces new album

Listen to the newest song by Germany's Suffer Survive - No Fuss is a teaser for the upcoming album Project Mayhem: Declaration Of War. Check out the this track here. The full length will drop in October via Demons Run Amok. Place your pre-order here.

Seconds Of Peace - Carry The Weight

Seconds Of Peace from Cologne,DE plays NYHC influenced hardcore not unlike Agnostic Front's One Voice era. Really tight songs and sharp delivery, nice hooks, gang vocals and lots of parts that are sure to make crowd go nuts. Everything sounds vibrant like they've been getting music lessons from Matt Henderson. I get many good demos here but the quality of this one really surprised me. Download it!

Coldburn posts new song, Love Left Me

Colburn have posted a new song, ‘Love Left Me’, taken from the upcoming full length record The Harsh Fangs of Life. Pre-orders are up now: the CD can be ordered through Beatdown Hardwear, and the LP via Cobra Records. The album will drop in September. If you want to support the band, you can buy merch here.

Optimist - MMXII

Optimist features members of End Of Days and is even more metal than their previous band. As they like to describe themselves, the band is 'driven by the pure energy of raw hardcore and the relentless aggression of destroying old school death metal'. I think it's pretty accurate description, and since they've been doing their thing for some time now, you can be sure everything from song-writing to execution is top notch. Don't believe me? Check here before downloading the demo.

Look My Way working on first full length

Look My Way announced it plans to hit the studio in October to record bands first full length entitled 'Mentality'. The band will work with Manuel Cohnen (The Ice, The Platoon, EBH and more). Go For It! Interview

Go For It! has been featured on this website couple of times already but the news is they’re working hard to have their new album released so we thought it’s worth to inquire a little bit about it. It is called Misantrophy and judging by the songs that have been released so far, it shows more melodic and catchy side of the band. It’s still powerful, but when you compare it with their first output you might be surprised. Here’s something about the new music and the message the band want to get across through it!
Go For It! has been featured on this website couple of times already but the news is they’re working hard to have their new album released so we thought it’s worth to inquire a little bit about it. It is called Misantrophy and judging by the songs that have been released so far, it shows more melodic and catchy side of the band. It’s still powerful, but when you compare it with their first output you might be surprised. Here’s something about the new music and the message the band want to get across through it!
What´s new with the band? Please give us the recent history?
GO FOR IT! started up in late 2008 in the north-west of Germany. We´re a four-piece Hardcore-Punk-band playing a style anywhere between Oldschool & Punk Rock.
It is just the way we used to hear when we were kids until nowadays. GO FOR IT! are members Franky who is doing the vocals, Dom at the drums, Martin plays bass and my name is Haris. I play guitar and sing at several parts, too. Martin replaced our friend Sven. He was leaving out of personal reasons but he is still in our hearts and yes, he is back with making again. Martin joined GO FOR IT! in a time when we were out of the studio and the recordings for “Misanthropy” were finished. But the rehearsals with him showed us that “Misanthropy” could reach another level. So we decided to book another studio to record all bass lines again. You will hear the result when you will write the review of “Misanthropy”

Tell me about the new album “Misanthropy”. What can kids expect when they´re listening to it?
“The passion, the heart afire entire” …these are the first few words which opens up the album within a sing-along and I guess there isn´t really more to say about it hahaha. No just kidding, but I guess the first impression when I am thinking about “Misanthropy” is that this record is different in many ways when it comes to comparison to our first release “Reading between the front lines”. We invested much more time during the songwriting and pre-productions and we thrown away a lot of lyrics until we reached every single track like we thought it should out perfectly.
Finally the kids can expect 14 tracks and some really interesting features.

Tell us something about the guest appearances on the album!
Oh that´s pretty easy to answer that question because every single voice which is captured on “Misanthropy” is a friend of us. We know Cindy van der Heijden (All For Nothing) since ever I guess hahaha. And so we asked her if she wanted to sing some vocals in “Fuck Y´All”. The same with Bud who is better known from his band Settle The Score, who are sadly not active anymore. There are much more buddies on “Misanthropy” so you better check the booklet and figure out who I am talking about.
The whole “Misanthropy”-album was made by friends of us…the recordings, the mastering, the artwork and design, simply everything. That makes us feel pretty familiar to this upcoming output.

Lyrically, what are some of the stories you are telling on this album?
“Misanthropy” – dealing with social values as a flat creation of humanity. We are all creatures that act anti-social and selfish in so many ways. Franky only writes about personal stories that he witnessed cause this is the best way to make it authentic.

Which one is the most important to you?
Puh, hard to say but I guess “Humanimal” is the key to the whole album.
But that doesn´t make this song more important in contrast to the others.

You´ve been for some time already. How has your outlook on Hardcore scene changed over the years?
Damned, we´re getting older and there is nothing we can do about it. But in our hearts we´re still 14 years old and we still love what we do. But now the time has come that we give our scene(s) something back. Not something material or anything like that but we are totally caught into “messages” so maybe YOU know what we´re talking about.

Do you even get the impression that kids nowadays are forgetting their roots and the classic Hardcore sound?
Some kids are just jumping from one trend to another, play what their friends wanna hear and forget the Punk roots, which build up the Hardcore scene. Definitely yes, and I am sad about that. Today everything is about piercings, flat caps and who has more tattoos. Oh man, that really has nothing in common with Hardcore like it once was meant.

If you could change one thing in the Hardcore scene, what would it be?
One upon a time Hardcore was about being individual and diverse and checking out about the “Why?” behind a fact anyone is telling you. Today it is kinda different. The kids don´t care about respect or unity and this is what we love in Hardcore. No matter who you are, no matter where you´re from, you´re always welcome…and even more! Hardcore is a movement about being informed and to be critical.

What kind of stuff are you guys listening to now?
We´re a tree with many roots. As long as it is good music, we listen to every genre from Metal, Hip Hop, Punk, Ska, Hardcore (of course), and much more just like Johnny Cash, Peter Gabriel and City & Colour. If it comes from the heart and is authentic then I guess it doesn´t matter which style it is.

Record collecting – some kids say it´s okay, some say it´s lame to buy five different colour version of the same album. What are your thoughts on the subjects?
C´mon, you are talking about dedication and this is everything but really not lame at all. The last record I have bought was only 2 days ago. Definitely still a medium up to date in the Hardcore scene. The Rotting Out album is killer!

What are your thoughts on the current situation in Europe? I´m talking about the crises, the debt, the unemployment…
“Promote The Protest” is the connecting track to this theme and we were always treated like insects beyond the politics. We´re living in a democracy but we, the people are not involved into decisions concerning all of us. The thing is “Keep your eyes open and don´t believe what the media try to suggest you!” The big ones even earn more money than in the early days.

What are some other bands from your area, you´re down with?
Oh when I think about bands in our area then first of all our brothers Strength. Hard working, always on the road, brilliant people. Then of course, you have to check out Lavatch (these guys know how to love!) and All For Revenge from Berlin and all other bands who have something to say. Oh Berlin is not our area but hey, check them out!

Plans for spring, summer and rest of 2012? Anything else you´d like to add?
Step one: Find a passionate label who will release “Misanthropy” as soon as possible.
Step two: Promote the protest by playing shows and weekend-tours all over where it is possible and where the kids wanna see us to play.
Step three: Write new stuff. Right now we´ve already finished so far, so be aware and expect the worst.
Step four: Meet up passionate people who share the same love like we do…music from the bottom of the heart!

Final Prayer to Release New Album in May

European Hardcore's pack leader Final Prayer will release their new album "I Am Not Afraid" on Let it Burn Records on May 25, 2012. Chris (Let it Burn CEO) comments: "I am absolutely stoked to have Final Prayer officially back on Let it Burn Records. Infact they never really 'left' the label. Both the cooperation and the friendship easily outlasted their short 'excursion' in 2009. Since releasing the band's debut album in 2006 I had known that Let it Burn Records and Final Prayer is a perfect match and I am tremendously looking forward to releasing and promoting the band's new album which is spinning on my computer in this very moment."

Final Prayer about reuniting with Let it Burn Records: "After some very busy months, a lot of hard work and intense songwriting and studio sessions, we're more than happy to announce, that we're ready to release our third studio-album called 'I Am Not Afraid'. With our buddy Dennis (Black Friday '29) on board, the new songs are much more varied with a lot of styles and influences. Catchy melodies meet heavy breakdowns and epic sing-alongs. Over and above we're supported on two songs by two very charismatic voices - be prepared! All in all the 10 songs of this album start where the "Berlin" EP has ended and are by far the best ones we've done so far! Label-wise we feel very comfortable, that the record will be released by Munich's famous Let It Burn Records. This might appear like a big change to some people, but after a quite moving period for the band, working together with our old friend Chris feels just like coming home. We're extremely satisfied with the songs and think that he's the right guy to spread our message. But enough words for now. The Releaseshow of the album will be on May 26th at Festsaal Kreuzberg, Berlin. We're psyched to see you there and show you what this album is really about. - the final prayer collective"

"I am Not Afraid" was recorded and mixed at Daily Hero Studios, Berlin and mastered at Time Tools Mastering, Hannover. The artwork was created by the Design Armada. Expect our promo-mailout and more info within the next days.

Never Face Defeat - Convicted

The Convicted ep brings five songs of fast and heavy hardcore which makes me think of bands like old Sworn Enemy or Hoods but with more metal feel to it. The compositions tend to be complex and even though there is no lack of faster parts, there’s a lot of happening throughout the songs. Hell, the band has been around for over ten years now so they know how to put a song together. My biggest gripe with this album is that sometimes these songs seem to lack focus. The band obviously knows how to handle their shit but they put too much attention to making those tracks sound complex instead of powerful. I got impression that tracks like Determination would sound much more stronger if they cut some of the passages and stick to the elements that really make this song stand out. Don’t get me wrong, I think they’ve got a lot of good ideas and skills to put these ideas into songs, but I guess I’m into more straight forward stuff. Some of the riffs on this album are one of the catchiest I’ve heard in hardcore recently, but the songs lack the bite when they start going to mid-tempos and overdo breakdowns. And it’s a shame cause when they sound more aggressive, it’s really good stuff. For the vinyl freaks; the EP has been released as a three-song seven-inch picture disc and the package also includes CD with all five songs. I like that idea.

New Blood: Hold Down

So this edition of New Blood is dedicated to Germany-based Hold Down. Some time ago I wrote about their demo: ”Hold Down plays hardcore that is both aggressive and very catchy. The band certainly has a flair for a proper hardcore sound without any cheap tricks. They stick to the basics of the genre but still keep it fresh and powerful.” I think this sums up the band pretty well and if you ask me, they certainly one of the most interesting upcoming bands from the Germany right now. Read the short interview and learn what they’re all about!

For those unfamiliar with the band - what do you want people to know about the band and your music or message? How did you all meet and how long have you all been a band?
Hello everybody. Me ( sören/ voice) and our former drummer, now guitarplayer mathias, come from the same part of town in the cologne area and we had been playing in another band together before we came up with the idea to start Hold Down last year. We all have known each other for a few years except for our drummer Emilio from Guatemala, who just recently moved to Germany and joined us to finally get things started.

What's the toughest struggle for the band like yours? What's the biggest wall to get over?
Don´t know about the other bands but in our case the biggest struggle was and still is to get a dedicated crew together. It took us a while to find the right guys and we currently don´t really have a bassplayer, so that kind of slows us down in some ways. Another aspect is the fact that I moved to Bremen (300kms from cologne) a while ago and we do not get to hang out and play as much as we want to, but that´s life.

For those who have not heard anything from you how would you describe band's playing sound?
That´s a tough one to answer. I would rather recommend you to download our first output on this page to find out on your own. But I reckon our sound could be described as mainly midtempo orientated hardcore with the odd fast riff and some groove to it.

What have you released so far?
we just recently recorded our first songs as a demo which we didn´t really release in that kind of way. We just wanted to record those songs quite soon after we founded Hold Down to get it started properly. We posted them as a download on our myspace and it can be found here on hardboiled as well.

Who are your strongest musical influences and why?
Beside the all time classic bands from the 80´s/90´s who have defined the Style of Hardcore Music and paved the way for many great Bands, I would say that we´re mostly influenced by (mainly european) hardcore bands like bleed into one, solid ground, no turning back…just to name a few. Those Bands, among others, are the ones who have been working hard during the last years to make European Hardcore as strong and alive as it is today and they stick to the old nyhc-style without loosing their unique sound which is very important to me. That´s the music that we all like, but there are so many good bands around which makes it hard to break it down to a few names. I definitely don´t want to compare us with those great bands in any way, that would be just ridiculous, but since we listen to that kind of hardcore all the time it influenced our approach to play music and made us start something by ourselves.

Where do you draw your inspiration from when it comes to the lyrics?
When approaching a new song, I´m mostly influenced by my own surroundings and my own life. I don´t write lyrics about politics that take place on the international level because in my opinion there are so many things that go wrong in front of our own eyes, fucked up things happen and there are boundaries to get over for everyone of us. There´s a lot to do and countless aspects worth to think and write songs about. Beside the contradictions and problems that we have to face sometimes, there´s a lot of positive energy left inside. Friendship for example is a big part of life, and so there might be one or two songs about that as well.

Tell me about band's performance element – what should kids expect from your live show?
Well, I can´t come up with impressive tales concerning life shows since we haven´t played a single one with Hold Down yet. We don´t have a bass player right now which makes it impossible to play, but are currently setting things up and there are some shows coming up around may. I would say people can expect the things to happen, they do themselves. We´re not afraid to demonstrate the energy we have and if the people want to go mad we will definetely appreciate that. But I think it´s more realistic to say that the people should not expect too much movement in the crowd on the first shows because we´re not that well known and you know what that means.

Tell us what you have coming up that we can check for. Plans, gigs and releases planned for the upcoming months?
We can probably be seen on a few shows in early summer like I mentioned before.
We´re currently setting up a show near cologne to showcase our demo. We also have a couple new tracks and currently work on a few because we have more ideas than we can keep in our heads, which should make us hit the studio again in the later part of 2011.

Any closing thoughts?
Thanks a lot for the interview and everyone who took the time to check our sound, we appreciate that. If anyone is interested in filling Hold Downs void on the bass position, just hit us up. Keep moving!

Rise From Above - Phoenix

The album starts with a solid, groove driven passage which immediately brings to mind my favorite hardcore albums when I was a kid. The music has this classic feel to it reminiscent of old crossover records like for example Cause For Alarm by Agnostic Front. But it’s also not only about the past, the music has been updated so to stay in line with what currently make hardcore kids go crazy. I guess the Wolf City or Lionheart merch they’re wearing on the inlay photos gives you some kind of hint what their influences are. I never heard the split with Stay Cold so I cannot say if the band progressed or not, but this CD is very good. For the most part Rise From Above knows what to play and how to play it. The riffs are good, the songs are skillfully put together and the vocals do the job as well. The songs are mostly fast, but there’s some room for slower, groovier parts as well. The vocals are strong and spit out lyrics full of anger and conviction. There's good vibe and energy in what the band is doing, but they could put more variation in it to make it a bit more interesting. Nonetheless, if you’re out for tight and in your face hardcore delivery, there’s no reason to complain. I actually enjoy these songs more than some of the albums by the bands that are being heavily hyped on the scene nowadays.
