Stand United

Mosh obsessed hardcore coming from Iowa. Angry vocals, breakdowns that go hard and tight rhythm section is what to be expected of them. If you're fan of this type of stuff, this might be a treat.

Name: Stand United

Location: Des Moines, Iowa

Active since: Summer 2008

How do you define your overall style?
Straight Edge Mosh!

What’s your goal with this band?
We have many goals, we add new ones and check old ones off the list all the time. It started out, that we wanted to play some solid shows in our area, then tour, then get signed. So we'll see what's next!

What do you have recorded so far?
We have put out 2 demos and we are currently in the process of recording our debut full length.

How did you all meet and how long have you all been a band?
We all met through the Des Moines hardcore scene, the current lineup has only been around for 2 months.

Who are your influences?
The Acacia Strain, Hatebreed, Bury Your Dead, Too Pure To Die, Throwdown, Terror, & First Blood all directly influence our sound.

Is everybody in the band straight edge?
Yes

And does it come across in your music?
Boldly.

How did you get involved in the SxE lifestyle personally?
Listening to heavy music, and a lot of the bands we were listening to and looked up to were straight edge bands.

What was so special about it that appealed to you?
What made straight edge so special to us was that the bands we were listening to were so in your face about it, which made it super easy to look up to bands like that.

What’s happening with hardcore scene in Iowa?
It's starting to get better again, new bands are starting every week it seems like. It's reshaping into something good.

What can we expect from you guys in the future?
We have really big news coming soon, keep posted @ myspace.com/standunitedhardcore

Thanks so much for your time. Any final words for the people out there?
2010 is gonna be the year of SU, keep a look out for us!

Clenched Fist - Just Like Roaches

Trying to top your first album isn’t always an easy task, especially when the album was Welcome To Memphis. But somehow, I was sure that this band just cannot fail. There is no doubt they have a certain item in their music which they seem to have homed in on over the years and which makes their music more vibrant and moving than others in their league.

More than a couple times on this album, the arrangements and musicianship far outstrip the work they did on Welcome To Memphis. There might be not much deviation in their style, but my impression is that the songs are more complex and varied while still being focused on an aggressive side of hardcore. But the meat of the album is still old school grooves with metal touch. They just do what they’re best at and no doubt it works.

Clenched Fist can assault you with s straight up hardcore part, but also pull back the tempo into more of a metal influenced style. Not many bands can do it better. I’m not saying that the album is flawless, but hardcore music is not supposed to be perfect so I don’t care. The production is ok and there’s a nice balance with no instrument buried in the mix but I remember hearing demo version of Rat Race and I think I like that rawer recordings better.

More often than not it does, Just Like Roaches burst of pure energy that barely gives you a moment of rest. It’s the album that their fans have been waiting for since Clenched Fist first hit the scene.

Bloodstained - Wrath Innate

The sickest, the heaviest, the most depraved of what Polish hardcore got to offer are back with another slab of brutality. I like the direction this band is going - they started as a generic beatdown band but were able to develop style of their own adding a lot of darkness to their sound. This one is taken from their latest album - Saliga. Get it here!

Damnation Alley - Careerist

Albany hardcore that will take you back to the 90' raw and dirty sound. Damnation Alley brings to mind names like Stigmata, Pushbutton Warfare, Neglect or even Pantera. More info on the band here.

Straight To Your Face signed to Demons Run Amok

The restless folks at Demons Run Amok have just inked a deal with another powerful hardcore posse. This time it's Straight To Your Face, a band which most of you are probably familiar with, and if not, you should give 'em a try by clicking here. They're working on a new album which will be called "The Struggle"

Here's what the band posted in their myspace bulletin:

We are very proud to annonce that we have just inked a new record deal, with the gearman label, Demons run amok.
Its an honor for Straight to your face to be a part of the DRM famiglia, and we are all, very much looking forward, to the new partnership.
We will hit the dead rat studio in Aahus, next monday, the 15 of marts and will stay there, in Jacob Bredahls loving and tender arms, for to weeks, till the record is done. So that Jacob can mix and master the new STYF album after we are gone.
The title for the new album is...The Struggle...and its says all about what we vent through, to get this brutal and sick new album out, and still standing as a band, stronger than ever.
BUT we are back, last man standing, no turning back...Hell Yeah!!!
Look the fuck out, for this new album coming out on Demons run amok!!!

Black Friday 29 to start 'Concrete Help' foundation

Here's a good example that all it takes is good will and you can make a change. The German hardcore band Black Friday 29 is setting an example for all of us collecting the money on all of their shows for the last couple of years to donate it to their godchild. Now, they're planning to start a foundation of their own called "Concrete Help". Here's what Björn from BF 29 got to say about it:

It has been almost two years since Black Friday 29 has decided to turn words into action. In our personal lives we always try to be the best persons we can, but we also wanted to put the bands message into something positive, into something others can benefit from. To support a little child as a our godchild was our goal, but it seemed never enough for me. It was a good beginning though.
We have always kept on talking about doing more, perhaps founding an incorporated, non-profit association.
As some of you might know, we had been carrying a piggy bank to most of our shows and collected money to donate this to our godchild. It has been very succesful in the last few months, considering the foundation we donate the money to (www.plan.de) doesn't want us to send more than 2 shippings per year. After we have send two shippings over to our godchild in Nicaragua, we still had money left over. Consequently your donated money went to the foundation PLAN to help the people in Haiti.
I have always believed in possible positive changes the HC scene can bring or at least take part in. Seeing that the donations went so well was proof enough for me.
So I have spoken to my bandmates and some other friends connected to the HC Scene and took the bigger step to found an incorporated, non-profit association. We still need to do the paperworks for the institutions, but this will be done within the next 3 or 4 weeks.
So don't be surprised to find a different piggy bank box on the merch table of Black Friday 29. It will from now on all be donated to "Concrete Help", the Hardcare way! Our godchild will still be supported as before!

Support this cause and don't be greedy when Black Friday 29 is playing your town!
