Fall Of Serenity breaks up

Here's the statement from the band:

"After 10 years, we have to close the chapter Fall Of Serenity. In the last weeks we thought, after almost splitting up in 2008, we could go on doing the next record - at least after a break from playing live. But something unexpected happened just this week. Our singer John will join the band Deadlock on the bass position. These circumstances, and the global warming, make it impossible to go on. So we felt that we, including John, should finally end it. We wish John good luck and thank him for everything. Also a big thanks to all our supporters and foremost to our great fans. THANK YOU! Three of us will continue with a new project, so there is a chance to see our ugly faces somewhere in the future again."

Subzero 1989 - 2009 R.I.P

One of the best hardcore bands ever, New York's own Subzero, has called it quits. Here's the statement from Lou:

"What's up everybody! So yeah...this is it. After a long 20 year run of smashing stages with Subzero we've decided to lay the band to rest. We had a fuckin blast and live with no regrets. Just wanted to say thank you to all the die hards who stood by us from the very beginning and to all the new supporters we've picked up along the way. All the good words of encouragement, showing up at our shows, reppin' our gear and crankin our music! It's a big part of what kept us alive for this long and we thank you for that. All the best to you guys and thank you once again! It's been real. Much respect. We will be playing a few more shows through out different regions of NY and out of state before we end it. Our first is @ Popeyes Pub in Westchester, NY with JASTA on FEB 27th and then In Brooklyn @ Europa with THE CASUALTIES & THE KRAYS for the A CLOCKWORK ORANGE FEST. That's the last time you'll be hearing THE SUFFERING OF MAN / NECROPOLIS set. Then we'll be going out with a bang at the SUPERBOWL OF HARDCORE aka BLACK N BLUE BOWL @ STUDIO B in Brooklyn MAY 30th. There we will be reforming as the ORIGINAL band doing a strictly OLD SCHOOL set. All the demo and HAPPINESS WITHOUT PEACE classics. You don't want to miss any of these shows! Thanks for the good times and the memories! COURAGE! STRENGTH! PRIDE! LIONHEARTED!!!!! "

Apocalypse Now - Empires Fall

Apocalypse Now - Empires Fall
GSR 2008

Those familiar with Apocalypse Now style of blending hardcore and metal can rest assured knowing that not much has changed since his last album, Confrontation With God. While most of the tracks on this new one follow the same pattern, they’ve managed to take things to the next level with even more intensity and vitality packed into these songs.

This is a type of hardcore that put the chill down my spine! I’ve been their fan since the Fat Society days and I gotta say that my believe and support for this band has always paid off with every record they put out. The vocals are sick and musicianship tight as hell. The whole album is loaded with brutal riffs and punishing beats. Empires Fall contains 10 songs, most of them at a high speed tempo but lots of creative riffing and memorable hooks give it a dynamic feel. They slow down from time to time but they don’t base their music on breakdowns that much. When you listen to this stuff another thing you might notice is a superb production giving this shit fat and heavy sound. Lyrically, they moved from the tales of the apocalypse based on a Bible to more socio-politically aware., yet still dark and disturbing stuff. I like the fact that can touch different topics on one album, like one track is about religion and politics and other one is a down to earth song about hardcore movement and what it means to be a part of it. Great hardcore album, that I can not stop listening to!

Name: xHONORx

Location: Thomasville, NC

Active since: January 2008, haha yea only been around a year

Special Move: I'm not sure what this means lol, but we right heavy in your face beatdown music for people who enjoy having fun at shows.

Stuff recorded so far: 2008 Demo/Live @ Lucky's Pub CD
Songs:
Brothers In Arms
PURE STRENGTH! Old Version
The Meaning
All For One and One For All
When Winning Means Everything
Walking Tall

Your debut EP "WHAT'S RIGHT!" is in the making. What people can expect from this stuff?
This EP definitely shows a lot more maturity in our music. Still heavy hitting and in your face, but it has a soothing melodic sense to it as well.

Lyrically what kind of themes can we expect?
Straightedge, Posi, Life

Do you plan to sign to a label or keep it DIY?
Well we've talked to a couple labels, but we have done really well for ourselves thus far. Support would be nice though.

What do you feel makes a good hardcore band?
Interacting with the crowd and showing that you love what your doing.

How do you feel about hardcore today?
Hardcore music is good either way you look at it, to me it's one of the only types of music out that isn't solely about bullshit. I think people use it as a trend these days though, but for the people who truly know and understand what hardcore is, thank you.

What are the good hardcore bands from NC people should know about?
Deathblow RIP, Never In Life, Kong!, This Runs Deep, Lame Brain, Nations, RUINS, and We Live after the Fight(More Metal than hardcore, but good). Yea that's a pretty good start.

Are any of you in other bands?
Nah, but we have been in other bands in the past...lets not talk about that lol.

How is SxE important to you? What was the reason to do this? Do you think that outwardly advertising straight edge can cause many people to follow it as just another trend instead of a lifetime decision?
Straightedge is the most important thing in all of our lives. We don't really push it in our music in away to make it advertising, but we do give examples in our music showing what good it can bring you. Purity is an amazing thing, you only get one life so don't abuse it. As far as the trend goes, some people do go about it the wrong way, but we can't stop that. There will always be ignorance no matter what we do. For the people of are straightedge and truly follow it for the right reasons, we are proud of you all.

Any last words?
Thank you to everyone who has support us in this last year and we promise to continue to bring you guys music for many years to come. Never fall short of yourself and never follow trends. Be your own person and make your own decisions. "WHAT'S RIGHT!" coming soon!

Suicidal Tendencies - Come Alive

Boss Fight

Name: BOSS FIGHT

Location: Southwest Connecticut

Active since: 2006

Special Move: Fast, slow, hard, and heavy hitting. All different types of hardcore with our own unique concrete sound.

Stuff recorded so far: Rough ass basement songs and 3 song demo recorded by Andy @ Little Foot Productions in Rockaway, NY. Check him out, his shit is legit. www. myspace. com/littlefootproductions.

What is your main inspiration for writing?
Anyone that digs our shit and watches, throws down, sings along, and pays attention to us and our effort to write music. Not to sound so cliché, but friends and family are a huge inspiration.

What sort of lyrics can people find in your music?
Real life issues that everyone deals with. Whether it is struggle, challenge, losing someone you're close to, being broke as shit, smashing someones face in, or whatever life brings to us, and getting through it. That is how we express our music.

What is the least rewarding aspects of being in hardcore band?
The people who dont support and appreciate what we have. Oh, and lack of attendance at shows if a biq band isn't playing.

What's hardcore to you? What does it mean to you personally?
Hardcore is sharing something that you have in common with so many others. Getting together and playing music, singing along, punching your friends in the head. It's also a release of all the stress that you endure in your real life.

Worst movie ever made?
Jason X. The only cool thing about that movie was when the naked chicks were in the sleeping bags and Jason slammed them against a tree. Other than that, that shit sucked.

Where's the best place to hang out in Connecticut? Why?
This is a really hard question. Two-Four Variety in Norwalk. vanilla dutches, beer, doritos, and friendly service. Other than that, its connecticut... aka it sucks for chillin.

What can we look forward to, what’s next for Boss Fight?
A lot more songs, a lot more shows, a lot more merch, a lot more friends, a lot more fun, and a lot more bloody noses. As for the actual next thing coming, 7 song BOSS FIGHT ep coming in summer 2009.

GAME OVER

Deadscore - Built To Last

Deadscore - Built To Last
Cease Fire Records/Deadscore 2008

I didn’t know anything about Deadscore when I was buying this CD, I just thought it would be fine to give Malaysian band a chance. I don’t really recall hearing any hardcore band from that country so it came as a big surprise to me that this band is pretty damn solid.

Deadscore doesn't contribute with anything that hasn't been done by others but they play their music with certain vitality and skills. This is more heavy and aggressive side of hardcore, not unlike bands like Until The End or Terror. Their sound definitely has an edge to it but at the same the songs are catchy and melodic. It's quite clear that they know how to put a good song together and undoubtedly are capable of a blend of all that’s hype-able in modern hardcore. As for a debut this shit sounds really good. Fat production fits the music flawlessly. All the songs are cool but if I had to choose one that stands out I would go for Sellout. It’s fast and ends up with a pretty decent breakdown. Almost all the lyrics follow the same betrayal-revenge formula. They’re ok but if you feel that lyrics are of the same importance as music and you haven’t been fucked over by a friend lately you might be disappointed. To sum it up, it’s a good release that lives up to the standards of the hardcore today but is nothing over the top.
