Nails and Skin Like Iron to release split 7"

Bringing two energetic but diversified contemporary hardcore acts together in one pure and primal slab of wax, Nails and Skin Like Iron will collaboratively self-release a split 7” EP this January. San Francisco’s Skin Like Iron have already become a well-known entity in modern hardcore with nearly ten releases on such admirable dissident hardcore labels as Six Feet Under and React Records. The split leads off with two tracks of their melodic, yet abrasive hardcore, boasting an ambitious and emotive energy that many similar contemporary acts lack in severely.

The B-side of this crushing joint venture is owned by NAILS, hailing from Oxnard, California (the same town as the legendary Dr. Know), and undoubtedly one of the most devastating acts within the present expanses of hardcore. As on their Southern Lord debut LP Unsilent Death NAILS get in, kill, and get out, just as fans expect on these two tracks, which are in fact a preview of what is to be expected of their upcoming full-length, now being constructed for release via Southern Lord in the first half of 2012.

This one-time pressing of 1000 copies will be split between a publicly available reserve of 900 copies on black wax and 100 copies on blue, available from the bands only. The artwork was handled by SKIN LIKE IRON’s Alex Capasso who has handled the art duties for previous releases for the band.

Stay tuned for preorder info, an exclusive stream of the release and more in the weeks ahead.

SKIN LIKE IRON & NAILS Split 7” Track Listing:

* 1. Skin Like Iron “Disappear”
* 2. Skin Like Iron “The Parade”
* 3. Nails “Annihilation”
* 4. Nails “Cry Wolf”

End Begins - One Step Forward, A Lifetime Back

For years Full House records has been responsible for putting out some of the finest hardcore from Finland. Let’s just mention records from bands like Bolt, Ratface, Cutdown or Down My Throat which all bring some real heavy hitting rhythms. The sounds of End Begins fits pretty well alongside those bands. While the main focus seems to be on keeping it heavy, the songs are varied enough to offer some groove and catchy hooks. It’s hard not to be repetitive playing this type of stuff and band’s influences are clear for all to see, but the album has managed to keep my attention from start to finish. First of all, although this is their first album, the band has been around for couple of years now and you can sense they got time to learn how to use their gear. The song are pretty complex, but thankfully not too sophisticated and there’s no overload of technical wankery. If I had to draw any comparisons, I would say late Madball, some Hatebreed, maybe some Merauder influences also thrown in for a good measure. Basically, you get the idea. The first track kicks things off with tough as nails riffs and pounding drums which basically establish the mood for the rest of the songs. Thematically, they are not breaking any new grounds, but it’s still some verses to bench press or hit heavy bag to. Plus, I give them mad props for boxing themed artwork!

Not to mention the upcoming split on 6131 Records. Brennen, band's singer, explains how the band got together, what they're up to and shed shed some light on band's future plans
Can you tell us something about the band? Who is who in the band and how did you got together to form Out Of Time?
My name is Brennen and I sing in Out Of Time. Out of Time started practicing at the beginning of 2011. Jake Lindsay (Bass) and myself got in touch with our friends Travis Downey (Guitar), Kyle Caldwell (Guitar), and Ross Gordon (Drums) in St. Louis. They had been working on a new band and wanted us to be a part of it. So Jake and I drove made the drive from Champaign, IL to St Louis, MO. We put out a demo in June and did an east coast stint this past summer.

What has the response to your demo been so far? How is the tape selling? I have heard there are plans to press your demo in seven inch format. What’s up with that?
Honestly, way more awesome than i ever expected. The tape is on it's second pressing as of right now. We put out a few copies for our east coast dates on our own. Once they sold out, Born Ill from California then put out 100 tapes for us. Lost Time Records from Michigan will be pressing a mastered version of our demo on 7" in time for our January dates out west.

And can you tell us about the upcoming split? Who are the other bands involved and what label is to release it? Music-wise, how different are the songs on the split from your demo?
We are putting out a 3-way split 7" with our good friends in FOCUSEDXMINDS and ANOTHER MISTAKE. It will be released by 6131 Records in Spring, and we couldn't be more excited about it. As far as new songs go, the new jams are the best we've written yet. We're definitely starting to come into our own with these new tracks, and I'm very excited to let everyone hear.

You seem to be real hard working band, with all release plans and number of shows you do. What is your main source of motivation? And what are some of the toughest challenges you face running a hardcore band?
Honestly, the thing that keeps this band going is our mutual love for hardcore and touring. Hardcore is one of the few things in my life that makes sense to me. I remember going to shows when i was younger and seeing some of my first hardcore shows. I remember thinking "maybe someday my band will be someone's first experience of hardcore". Hardcore has given me a place to call home and has allowed me to do more with my life than i ever thought imaginable at age 19. The least we can do is try and leave our mark on it.

What are the records or bands that made the biggest impression on you in 2011?
I'm probably the worst person to ask this question to, seeing as I'm not always the most up to date on newer releases. New Naysayer, Rotting Out, and Dead End Path full lengths were all awesome for sure. 2012 has me really excited for new releases. Bent Life are doing a 7" on 6131 that I cannot wait for. Renegades is also putting out a new 7" on Lost Time. That band and that label both are extremely underrated.

Do you guys listen to any bands from Europe?
I always have and always will love Justice. Forever bummed I never got to see them. Wardogs had one of the coolest demos I've heard in a while. Sucks they called it quits. Lost Time is putting out a Bang Bros demo on cassette. That band is awesome. Our good friends in Expire just had a stint over in Europe too. Shout outs to those guys.

Ok, thanks a lot for doing it. If you want to share any future plans or any final thoughts before we wrap up, now is your chance.
Check us out on our Midwest Weekend with Another Mistake or our West Coast tour this January! Midwest on Top!

Reign Supreme signs with Mediaskare

Philadelphia, PA based REIGN SUPREME has signed with Mediaskare Records and will release their upcoming EP Sky Burial later this year through the label. “All the bands I know on Mediaskare love being on the label. That was pretty much enough for me,” commented vocalist Jay Pepito on why the band chose Mediaskare. Adding, “We just want to work with a label that will bend over backwards to help us achieve our goals as a band, we feel like Mediaskare is that label.”

The band will soon enter the studio with their long-time producer Will Putney to begin recording their new 7-song EP Sky Burial.

“Sky Burial comes from the Tibetan tradition of bringing the dead to a mountain, or other place where vultures gather. The vultures and other animals consume the corpse, and hence, it becomes a vessel to feed and care for these creatures,” explained Pepito on the title for the EP “It’s a cool idea, wherein your empty shell of a person becomes of some utility to some other thing, and I just found the idea of that fascinating; it makes more sense to me than embalming the dead in an attempt to preserve some self-imposed idea of what they were like in life, and then tossing that homemade mannequin into a pine box, and letting it rot. It seems to me to be more pragmatic, to let yourself be the thing that sustains your ecosystem. It reminds us that we are just animals, that we are not special because of our smart cars and Facebook, and that we, in a sense, are simply carrion.”

Speaking to what they want their fans to get out of Sky Burial, the band stated, “We just want them to enjoy it. We hope that it brings emotions out in them, and that our music becomes the soundtrack to some of the best years of their lives. There is no socio-political agenda with us, we are just angry, and want to rage.”

Crowd Deterrent - Show of Supreme Force

Hardcore Is More Than Music 2011

Here's the Hardcore Is More Than Music movie with guys from bands like Agnostic Front, Madball, Hoods and others talking why racism sucks and why it should not be accepted on hardcore scene.

In recent years we have been witnesses to new trends amongst neo-Nazis. Still more and more of them leave the skinhead image, and try to “catch onto” something else. One of the targets for them is the hardcore scene.

They find the aggressive music and uncompromising lyrics impressive. The leading figures of Czech neo-Nazi scene have been trying to infiltrate to hardcore shows and to take pictures with famous faces of the international hardcore scene. But they do not care about HC ethics, history or culture of hardcore. They only care about the “tough guy” image and macho poses. But that has never been what hardcore is about. People in hardcore scene differ from one another in many aspects, and that’s a good thing. But hardcore has never been connected to racism or Nazism. Hardcore community has always been a space for the people to meet without prejudice. And we want it to stay that way. That’s why we turned to some of the bands that have something to sa y. Among them were the bands whose shows attracted Nazis, who attempted to attend them. You can find the views and opinions of these bands on this DVD. Our questions remained the same, but the answers varied significantly. But they have something in common – there is no space for racism, prejudice and Nazism in the HC scene.

For us, HC scene is a family. For Nazis, it is just another scene they wish to abuse to gain support for their political goals.

Face your Enemy - Loyal

Think Fast! to release worldwide vinyl version of upcoming Earth Crisis album!

Official info: There’s no argument that the single underground band to stir the most controversy regarding their ethics and beliefs is none other than Syracuse legends, Earth Crisis. Forming in the early 90’s, Earth Crisis has remained a constant influence, combining heavy riffs with Karl Buechner’s signature commanding vocals. Not only have they stood as one of the most aggressive acts in the genre through their musical style, but also in their politically-charged beliefs.

Earth Crisis’ message of human, animal and environmental liberation has caused shockwaves that resonated beyond the music industry. They have received national media coverage on CNN, TBS, FOX, CBS, MTV, and ABC. Charismatic vocalist Karl Buechner has spoken in front of members of Congress about teens and substance abuse. Earth Crisis epitomizes commitment, fortitude, and resilience and is an established and embraced trademark in the international metal, hardcore and punk communities.

It is with great honor to announce that the band's latest album "Neutralize The Threat" will be exclusively released worldwide on vinyl via Think Fast! Records. The release is under exclusive license from Century Media Records. Think Fast! co-owner Larry Scott says of the release, "This is a pinnacle moment, not only for the label, but for me personally. Earth Crisis has always been, in my opinion, an inspiration to unapologetically speak on behalf of what you believe is right."

Earth Crisis has continued along this path of breaking new ground, constantly working and reaching more people spreading their message to the masses. Their relentless touring has put them in front of countless national and international audiences - from the U.S. to Canada, to Europe, Japan and South America. In October 1999, they played Bogota, Columbia's Rock al Parque Festival for over 120,000 people. They have toured with bands ranging from Sepultura and Downset to The Misfits and Snapcase.

With “Neutralize The Threat,” Earth Crisis has never been stronger or more relevant. Look for the exclusive vinyl version to surface in August, with pre-orders expected to launch early on in the Summer.

Desensitized to release new 7″ on Irish Voodoo,

Desensitized has joined Irish Voodoo Records! Currently, you can find the band working on new material in anticipation of their upcoming 7″ on Irish Voodoo, playing NYC and the surrounding areas, and generally having fun doing what they do best: making the music that they themselves would want to hear. The band came together in the spring of 2010, when Greg McGonagle, Jelani Wilson, and Jhonn Thomassen met during Black N’ Blue Bowl at New York City’s Webster Hall. The three of them quickly hit it off, and they were soon renting practice spaces by the hour, writing songs as a three piece with Greg on vocals, Jelani on drums, and Jhonn on guitar. Before they could even recruit a fourth member, Desensitized recorded their 6-song demo with Glen Lorieo and James Williams at Night Owl Studios in NYC. The demo was recorded, mixed, and mastered in a matter of days, with Jhonn and Greg splitting up the bass parts, many of which were written just a few days before entering the studio.
