Review: Provider - Wasteland

This band does not get as much love like some of their peers from NYC, and this is kind of surprising cause Wasteland is totally the kind of album most kids would be into nowadays. It’s heavily influenced by NYHC sound with all the elements you can find on any classic Warzone or Killing Time albums. They did their homework. The album is five tracks long, and that’s almost perfect with this type of music, especially when all of them are hard-hitting.

Olde York Interview

Olde York is one of the coolest bands hailing from New York City right now with a powerful classic hardcore sound. In anticipation for their upcoming Euro tour, I caught up with the band for an interview to talk a little bit about the latest release, Shallow World, what’s up with NY hardcore right now and some serious politics. Check it out!

Download: World Gone - Demo

World Gone hails from Hamilton area in Canada and delivers some crushing beatdown hardcore. From hatefilled vocals to ripping guitars to massive breakdowns, the band got it all covered. Checking out their FB profile I noticed they name bands like One Second Thought, Irate and Sworn Vengeance among their influences and that shit is right cause if you wanna do it properly, you gotta know where to take cues from. All in all, this is a solid demo and I will definitely check out their full lenght (coming in 2013!). Download!

Review: Drowning In Preconception - What’s Wrong?

If you want some in your face hardcore without too much distraction Drowning In Preconception is happy to provide that. The self-released debut ep ‘What’s Wrong?’ contains 5 songs of straight up heavy hardcore that takes cues from bands like Terror, Since The Flood or old Hatebreed. With their heavy ass guitar riffs and drummer that like to double bass the shit of each breakdown, you kind of know what to expect. And that is not a bad thing in my book. Although the album does not blow me away by any means, it’s still a solid listen.

Video: Race Riot 59 - Smash Nazis

Race Riot 59 have made new clip for Smash Nazis track which deals with our old friends, boneheads, getting what's been coming to them in a violent way. Catchy tunes and sing-along-friendly chorus makes this song a killer, plus the video is bad-ass with some nazi skinhead dude resurrecting dead nazis only to be killed by them and turned into zombie himself. Somebody needs to clean up this mess and that's when SOSF dudes jump in. Classic!

Trial & Error - Demo/EP

Trial & Error are from Scotland and play heavy metallic hardcore with some hard-ass grooves and chugging guitars. This type of hardcore seems to be rarely made nowadays as it's nothing really breakdown driven nor overly NYHC-inspired. I guess it's something in the middle, kind of what tough guy bands used to do in the 90s. Not too fast, not too slow. The songs in here are taken from their demo and ep, 9 tracks in total. I heard they got plans to drop new 7" in 2013, let's hope so! Download it!

New Light It Up ep - 'Dog Days'

Farewell Records has released new Light It Up ep called 'Dog Days'. Official info: Oops they did it again. LIGHT IT UP entered Berlin´s Hidden Planet studio to record their follow up of ´state of mind´ with 5 harder, darker and even more nihilistic songs. Includes download code & early bird send out of the whole record on 22nd November 2012. And oh, download contains a bonus song as well.

Dead & Dreaming - Deadlock

This is just two tracks but but they both go hard! Virginia-based Dead & Dreaming brings some rough hardcore filled with gang vocals and mid-paced grooves. Deadline is more dynamic of the two songs, with a slick breakdown at the end. Can't decide if it sounds like 90' East Coast tough guy hardcore or not. Maybe it's not exactly that style, but there are some common points. The lyrics are kinda chaotic, but worth paying attention to. If you want to hear their previous releases, click here to go to their bandcamp. Download it!

By My Hands - No Hope, No Escape 7"

If you’re into metallic hardcore than this is something to make your day a little bit less miserable. I remember I did like their previous album, Growing Older, Getting Colder, and with this short EP the band shows nothing but progress. The ep is short with only three tracks, but the content is so strong. The songs are even tighter and heavier than before, the music is very dynamic and there is no shortage of skills on display here. The overall style is rugged and both lyrics and music hit hard with pin point precision. If you like heavy approach to hardcore, this is your thing.

Bitter Thoughts and Facerwreck plan split release

Bitter Thoughts from Chicago and Facewreck from Liège, Belgium will drop split sometime in 2013. More info coming soon!

Bloodstained - Negativity

It's been three years since the band's latest album Saligia came out, but it's just now that Bloodstained releases a video for the Negativity track. It takes you on a trip through sick imagery, brutal visions, smut and filth of life. If Gaspar Noe was making clips for hardcore bands, the outcome would be something like Negativity. If you claim to be into heavy metallic hardcore and are not familiar with Bloodstained, you should be ashamed. The band is one of the best in heavyweight hardcore division, and as brutal as hardcore gets. Think like combination of Shattered Realm and Kickback with lots of sick, twisted shit on top.

Iron Grip - Demo 2012

This is very short 3-songs demo from Denver's Iron Grip filled with fucking rugged, in-your-face hardcore. Tons of NYHC grooves, thrash parts and pissed-off vocals make for some killer outcome and all tracks are guaranteed to make your head nod. It's a prefect taster of what this band got to offer on his forth coming album as their facebook states they are working on new EP, probably on Breakout Records. Download it!

Olde York - Shallow World

Just like on previous album, these cats still stick to the classic sound that New York city is famous for and they do it just right. Shit is NYHC to the bone, but Olde York puts their own twist on it so it’s more about paying respect to genre tradition than copying other bands. The energy of these songs is incredible and each track has its own character and vibe. You can hear they feel at ease with what they’re doing cause everything flows together so smoothly.

Bottom Out posted new track

Bottom Out posted new track on their bandcamp profile, entitled Letters From Earth! So see the ruse, with it's end in bloom, to see this strife and these vices tear their way through you. I always knew, to put no faith into the shit you talk, and the hate you spew. If the Devil is the author, then I serve as the pen. Watch your seed rot; wicked, through the hearts of men. So as I walk, and I'm shadowed by death I beg you bury me face down, tired and faithless.

Grim - Demo 2012

Fucking hell, that is some hard-ass shit. Grim definitely is hardcore, but they take a lot of metal influences to give their music more force. It's mid-tempo grooves most of the times, but because they keep their songs rather short it doesn't get boring that fast. Don't know much about the band reall, but I hope to hear more from them in the future! Download it!

Demonwomb Interview

Crossover sound which combines the best elements of hardcore and thrash metal is what to be expected from the debut EP by Austria-based Demonwomb. Think some Cro-Mags mixed with Pantera mixed with Slayer, and the whole stuff is played with finesse and skills above average. The band shares it for free, but 7” version is also available from Power Trip Records. Check out the interview with Sandro, who plays the bass, who shares some background info about the band, new EP and hardcore in Vienna!

Halftime - Demo 2012

Some harsh but neat hardcore from this San Diego band. There's a strong NYHC vibe here, think names like Breakdown or even Biohazard in the harder parts, and a lot of fuck-the-world attitude which I like. I dig the Suffer The Pain song, with the massive stomping part, nice solo at the end and general crossover feeling. The other songs are solid as well, but this one is my fav. Check the band's facebook profile and download the demo here.

Trailer for Population Control by No Zodiac

Dogchains - Demo 2012

Just a quick look at band's name and the cover of their first demo tells me we're dealing with something every hardcore connoisseur will appreciate. Dogchains is from Germany and is down with straight edge lifestyle. The music has a classic NYHC vibe to it, with some melodies in the guitar parts and strong groove laid down by the rhythm section. I can image the band causes some serious pit damage during the breakdown parts! The demo quality is top notch and you can hear all the instruments clearly. Definitely worth checking out! Download it!
