“Hailing from the eastern part of The Netherlands comes a band that you would expect from the western and sunny side of California. The band started in 2006 and not long after that they recorded a demo which was well received by critics and fans. Playing festivals such as Light The Fuse/Trashfest and also attending the 5 year anniversary for Punx.nl shows that this band is not just a punkrock band but lots more. With ex- and current members of Beans, Antillectual, My Reply and Citizens Patrol they have a wide variety of musicians in the band and that's something you distinctly hear in their sound. Influences vary from the melodic sounds of Nofx ( take note off the melodic guitar intros), Bad Religion, No Use For A Name but with a harder edge than any of these bands using influences of hardcore bands such as RKL, Stalag 13, 7 seconds en old New York and DC hardcore bands like Minor Threat and Urban Waste. In 2007 their demo was re-released by Gummopunx/Misspelled Yuoth and Pick-up records. Not long after that they started to record a full-length album which is now ready to be released and to be played all summer.Posted in: News, News_Featured, NYHC Published: Thursday, May 28, 2009 0 Comments

Stop Talking - Oppression
There’s a nice old school feeling to the songs with melodic guitars and a lot of emotions. For the style they play, there surprisingly a lot of going on in the song writing department, but I would like to see the band doing some more of the straight forward, aggressive tunes like Where Fear And Weapons Meet or Better Than A 1000 did back in the days. They’ve got the skills and some good ideas but sometimes I wish they gave their music more edge. One song that stands out for me is Bring It Back, which has nice melodic line. While there are some great songs on this one, the overall album is going to be a matter of opinion. If you like melodic hardcore, you will love it. If you’re into more aggressive stuff, you can get disappointed. I kind of split the niddle, in that I don’t really like this type of hardcore but I can appreciate a good band no matter what subgenre they’re into.

Jungle Juice - Jungle Jamz
Actually, there are more mid paced parts and breakdowns than one would expect, but it doesn’t change the fact that the overall pace of the album is fast. The lyrics got some pissed off attitude to them so even if most of the songs are anti-social, anti-war, anti-politics, the band comes off as some seriously angry bunch of guys who are here to make sure their voice is gonna be heard and not like the pack of crying hippies. I really like the No Glory song, where they mix the USA anthem with the furious anti-army punk rock. The opening track is also great, probably my favorite one. Lyrically, the best one gotta be Changed, Not Impressed and Nowhere Fast. If you recently have had problems with your neighbors, boss, co-workers or your girlfriend you should like em too. There are 10 songs on the CD and most of them don’t even hit the 2 minute mark. It’s not a problem with me cause every time I finish listening to it I want to listen to the record again. Definitely worth checking out if you like old school hardcore they way it was meant to be played.

Scalping Screen - Twelve Out Of Chamber
Drawing a lot of influences from the heaviest in hardcore and straight up metal, they’re in the same heavy weight division as Full Blown Chaos, Sworn Enemy and Merauder. Sure, comparisons are a sucker, but when they stray into metal territory, Scalping Screen definitely makes me think about bands like early Machine Head and Slayer. And since I love all of those bands, this album really does it for me. All of the tracks are strong and structured, with good songwriting and musical skills and should be your thing if you like when hardcore gets really heavy. The records kinda stand and fall with the today’s hardcore though. As much as the blending hardcore with metal is nothing new and in many cases can be simply played out formula these days, the band proves it can take the best elements from both and use it to create some really powerful tracks. Where Scalping Screen really scores is the thrash feel of the album. They’re not packing their songs with tons of breakdowns as many bands do today. Even though I love when things get slow and heavy, it’s good to hear the album that is focused on speed and aggression. Overall, the passion and skills make a perfect combination on Twelve Out Of Chamber. This album is catchy as hell and will be stuck in your head.

True Valiance - Hooked On Revenge
True Valiance are from Bristol and have been around since 2006. I’ve heard people comparing them to bands like No Warning, One King Down, Earth Crisis or Until The End and I can agree they borrow some elements from all of these acts but they mix it up with style and skills . There are moments when NYHC seems to fit it, but then the breakdown comes giving it a strong new school feel in the end. Lyrically, with the album title like Hooked On Revenge and considering the rest of the bands on the Rucktion label, I was expecting some heavy thug guy stuff but it turned out to be more on the political side of the things. Some of the themes they deal with in their songs are racism, police state, apathy, society etc. There are only six tracks on the album so it doesn’t get tiresome but I wish they could diversify their songs a bit in the future so there could be more gems like You’ll Never Understand, an adrenaline filled orgy of mosh which alone makes it worth to get this album. It’s a good and solid record overall, but I just don't think this one shines like some of Rucktion’s other releases I’ve heard recently.

It is lived and it is loved. It is preached and it is followed. It is breathed, ate and slept. It is the life we have chosen. As the soundtrack of our lives, it offers relief from what ails and for Connecticut's DEATH THREAT it is an inextricable way of being. A statement of purpose that keeps the group coming together time and again. A big middle finger in the face of all adversity. A "1,2, fuck you!" to the weekend warriors and tourists. Since their inception, the group has had the ability to pull together myriad factions into a cohesive group, even if for only a precious half hour. Chalk this up to the group being both credible and humorous. What a concept! Just one listen to their debut release, 1998's "Last Days", and you know they're not here to fit into any preconceived molds. Follow it up with 2000's. "Peace And Security" and 2002's "God And Government" and you can see a group as it should be — growing in talent without abandoning its core mission. The bands 3rd full length, 2004's "Now Here Fast" is the prime example of a band's complete reanimation of there musical influences. Classic hardcore and punk chants, riffs and breakdowns, all in the signature DEATH THREAT style. Shortly after the release of "Now Here Fast", the group decided to fracture and pursue other individual ventures. A great document of this time is the release of the Price Of Pain/Crowns Of Kings split EP on Reaper Records. The two sides comprised the new projects of the DEATH THREAT family. 2009 will bring great things to the bands fans as the group is set to release its newest offering, "Lost At Sea". The recording is a 4-song kick to the eardrum. A return to form by the band that helped knock a genre on its ass. This year will bring many live appearances by the band.
