My Gut Reaction: Piece By Piece - Primitive As Fuck

If you know Piece By Piece you know there’s no going wrong with this album. Hard-hitting tracks and anti-social lyricism is everything I want from my hardcore, but this one takes it straight to the next level. Piece By Piece is on some demented shit with track titles like I Fuck You, Primitive As Fuck and Let’s Fuck. The ep is fast, attack-heavy burst of in your face hardcore most of the time, but there are some cool breakdowns or melodic parts as well. The guitar work is awesome and the vocals rip. Very dope record. Don't sleep on it!

Standout tracks: You're The Enemy, I Just Wanna Be Crazy, Let's Fuck

Ratel Recs sampler for free!

Here's a collection of tracks from various Ratel releases to start 2014 with a bang. These dudes have put out some incredible records last year, just to mention Reality Check / Dig split, Bloodstained / Length Of Time split, new Desperate Times, new Last Dayz, as well as their split with Cornered. If you've slept on those, here's a chance to catch up.

Grim Interview

The Seeds of Love, a new ep by Grim, is some nasty and vicious piece of wax. If you're into hardcore that is heavy but not devoid of emotions, it's your stuff right here. I dig this ep cause beside the fact that the band goes hard from start to finish, there's some depth to it as well. Like, it can let you connect with your emotional side without making you feel like a pussy. I respect that. Here's an interview with Kristof who does the vocal duties for the band.

Video: Look My Way - Protect What's Mine

The contribution from Jeremy of Lifeless fame, even if very short, has made this track highly enjoyable.

RoughneckMedia: Footage from Pitfest 2012

RoughneckMedia have posted vids from Pitfest that took place earlier this December in Aachen, Germany. These dudes are always doing a top notch job and amazing vid and sound quality is guaranteed. Dogchains, Demonwomb, World Eater and Intense are already up and online.

On the edge of...

Taut - On the edge of...

It’s time to give props to my local scene. East of Europe is no joke! This one was posted to bandcamp earlier this year but it’s just lately that I had checked it out.

Taut was a short lived band from east of Poland and this is remastered version of their first and only demo that came out in 2009. The first version was rough sounding at times, but the energy was definitely there. On this one, the beefier production makes this band sound even more pissed off and powerful.

Their style was NYHC-inspired with some hints of thrash in the heavier parts. It comes in like combination of Madball and Bitter End, you get the deal. Tough, street-smart hardcore that is hitting as hard as possible. But despite band’s focus on staying aggressive all the time, the tracks are well formed and complex.

Anyway, I advise everyone to give it a try - I suppose the band was not very popular outside Poland so it might be something new for most of you.

Upperhand Interview

Upperhand is a hardcore band from Richmond that got awesome Chains Of Shame 7" out on Mind Rot Records. They play solid NYHC-inspired hardcore with enough fat riffs and tight grooves to make me wanna wild out and do stupid shit. The pissed off, harsh vocals only make this stuff more powerful. Check it out if you're into Madball, Naysayer and Terror!

New Seconds of Peace tracks

My people from Seconds of Peace have posted two new tracks to get you ready for the upcoming ep Hangin' to the Tunes of Doom. Let me just say that they really progressed since the demo and this shit sounds tight and on point. The ep should be out in January if everything goes as planned.

Check out the interview I did with the band some time ago: CLICK HERE.

Video: Judgement Day - Existence

American Straight Edge! Judgement Day from Southern California with members of Isolation AD. You can get their two-song ep from: judgementxday.bandcamp.com

New Blood: Bad Attitude

Bad Attitude is a new band from Leeuwarden (Netherlands) area with members of Cornered, Pantah and 0fight8 with a mission to go back in time with their sound. Their first demo is filled with raging, in your face hardcore that kids in 80' and early 90' used to mosh to. If you dig this style, check this out!

Ad Of The Day: None Of The Above Recs

Review: Clerview / Paura - Rage Through Integrity

Clerview/Paura - Rage Through Integrity (Caustic Records / HeartsBleedBlue)- Wow, this one packs a punch! Clearview’s delivery sounds tighter than ever. Musically, it’s all about furious riffs, heavy breaks, and thumping drums. They ain't afraid to wear their influences on their sleeve, but still it sounds honest and genuine. The production is beefy but sharp, with every instrument sounding crisp and clear.

New Blood: Miss My Chance

Miss My Chance is a new blood from Long Island, NY. They caught my attention when they dropped If & When ep earlier this year. It's just two tracks but they both rip with anger and a vicious delivery. Hard vocals over powerful riffs and tight drums is a no-brainer, but this band managed to pull this one off. Show these dudes some support, check out the interview.

Video: Deadly Visions - The Blind Leading The Lost

New Deadly Visions video. The track is to get you stoked for the upcoming "Sydneys Wasted Youth" compilation due out early 2014.

Video: Reason Enough - F*ck Mercy

New visuals from Reason Enough is pretty dope with the whole posse proudly displaying ignorant and antisocial attitude. Can't help to appreciate the subtle Do Or Die feeling in this video. The track itself goes hard as well. Glad to see this band active again.

Demo Daze: Maniac, Werewolf, Piece Keeper

Werewolf - Demo 2013
Brazil hardcore with cool NYHC feeling. Essentially you can think of any of your favourite NYHC bands from the late 80's/early 90's and there's a good chance you'll find strong traces of them in the songs on this demo.
Don't forget the streets!

Straight & Alert releases new Lodges album

Lodges - Walking On Hands And Knees 12" is now available from Straight & Alert records.

LODGES started during summer 2013 in Paris, from the ashes of their previous band Donkey Punch. Their sound evolved to something heavier and darker than ever before, somewhere between Catharsis, Lewd Acts, Converge, Cursed or Trap Them. These guys are not rookies, as they already shared the stage with Celeste, Deafheaven, Trash Talk, Ceremony or Deal With It so they know how to make a crowd move. GET YOUR COPY HERE.

Check out new Raceriot59 ep - 'Police Threat'!

Raceriot59 just dropped new ep called 'Police Threat'. No fuzz, just straight up pissed off and aggressive punk rock.

Live Fast Die Fast Interview

Live Fast Die Fast is NYHC in its purest form so if you respect bands that got that rawness and aggression this is for you. No bullshit hardcore made by couple of dudes who are in it for the right reasons. The band has dropped ‘Keep Your Fingers Crossed’ album earlier this year and I advise everyone to check it out. Check out the interview with Paul who does vocals for the band.

Video: Last Dayz - Deception Uncovered

Straight from the planet of the apes...

CHEAP FRAUD
I’m closer to death with every next breath
So I know I shouldn’t waste my time but
DECEIVER I spit in your face
I tried to look on the bright side
Now it’s time to hate again

Review: Selfish Hate – Today Tomorrow Forever

Selfish Hate – Today Tomorrow Forever (District 763 Records) - This is late-Throwdown / early-Bury Your Dead type of metallic hardcore that was so popular couple of years ago.

Hardcore Gem: Stormcore - 'Last Warning' (Agnostic Front)

Stormcore playing 'Last Warning' with Matt Henderson and Freddy Cricien. Thanks to KDS Legacy for posting this.

On heavy rotation this week...

Life After Death - Scum of Society Forever
Buy it HERE.

The band actually put out this album in 2012, but although being much into their recent ep I never really had a chance to pay this one the attention it deserves. Turns out I was really missing out, cause this is first rate beatdown hardcore with tons of that sweet 90' sound. The vocals are sick, the songs are packed with hooks and twists, and the execution is flawless.

Take Offense - United States Of Mind
Buy it HERE.

Take Offense is back on the scene with this highly anticipated album. This is a killer record that perfectly blends in-your-face hardcore with creative song writing and superb musicianship. The vocals go from hard to melodic and definitely are one of the highlights here. Through I feel their previous ep had more stand out tracks, this is still good listen from start to finish.

Paura / Clearview - Rage Through Integrity (Split)
Buy it HERE.

Clearview plays raging hardcore that sounds like combination of the best elements of Madball, Terror and One Life Crew. The tracks go from fast to groovy, but they all bang and there's a serious sense of purpose in each of them. Paura's side of the split is kind of heavier and slower, not as good as Clearview but still decent.

Honesty Interview

Honesta is an international hardcore band with members coming from Paris and Belgrade. The band has its roots i Onesta, a name most of you might be familiar with, but because of line-up issues they changed their name in recent times. Musically, it’s similar NYHC influenced vibe, but they kind of added a strong socio-political theme to their lyrics. One of the things that caught my attention about them is their commitment to the issue of homelessness, with one of the members being a volunteer for Paris Red Cross Association. Anyway, check out the interview for more info about this!.

True Spirit Tour #2

True Spirit Tour #2 is happening right now! Make sure you check one of the shows if you're anywhere around. No Turning Back, Anchor, A Strength Within and Light It Up - the line up is dope and I'm sure each gig gonna be hell of a fun! Peace!

Too Old To Die Young is a title of the upcoming album from Vienna,Austria-based Spider Crew. It is due out in 2014 through One Voice Records.

Review: Desperate Times - New Course Of Action

Desperate Times - New Course Of Action (Ratel/Last Warning) - Both musically and lyrically, this album is a beast entirely and definitely some of the most powerful stuff ever recorded by a Polish band. There have been some line-up changes since their previous ep and this is first record with new vocalist, but it didn't hurt them a bit. The music is tight from start to finish and vocals rip it.

Overthrown Interview

It’s always cool to learn about hardcore bands from different parts of the world. Not only you can discover tons of great music, but it also kind of gives you a sense of being a part of something big and important. So, this time it's Singapore. Although I just recently came across Overthrown, it turns out they have been churning their brand of heavy but no-bullshit hardcore since mid 90’, becoming one of the stalwarts of the local scene. Each band that keeps it DIY and manages to put out several releases and tour across Asia and Europe deserves respect. I hope this interview will shed some more light on the band for those not familiar, as well as make you check out their albums..

RoughneckMedia: Power Trip footage from Germany

I just realized I haven't posted anything from RoughneckMedia for some time already, but these dudes are not slowing down and have been steadily putting out dope vids to their youtube channel. Here's one taken at Power Trip show in Bochum, Germany.

Ad Of The Day

Trivia: Gas Powered Records was started by Chris from In Effect fanzine and Nick from Coldfront. This classic album came out in 1996 and as far as I know, this was label's only release. The album was recorded at Motherwest Studios in Manhattan and produced by Mike Dijan.

Pizza Mental Attitude

Face Your Enemy is back with Pizza Mental Attitude, a homage to the finest of what Italian cuisine has to offer. Caserta region of Italy has a reputation of being a place where you can get some of the best pizza the country has to offer so these dudes know what they're talking about. Very dope way to set the tone for the upcoming release 'Toxic Vendetta' EP and bonus points for the Italian lyrics giving this song a cool vibe. If you wanna give FYE some support and cop some fly gear, check out their merch here.

DisXease - Demo 2013

Sao Paulo/Brazil hardcore from the dudes who used play in I Shot Cyrus / Newspeak / Pointing Finger. Fast hardcore with furious riffs and pissed-off vocals, it might sound played out but this demo is tight as hell!

Review: Last Dayz/Cornered - Split 7”

LLast Dayz/Cornered - Split 7” (Ratel) - It’s been some time since this one came out and I have already reviewed the new ep from Last Dayz some time ago, but this split is too dope to get unnoticed. Last Dayz comes blasting with 2 tracks, of which both are nothing less than crushing. They can be best described as hard as nails PAHC-styled core that packs enough vicious breakdowns to make you wanna hurt random people with no reason.

Listen to Backtrack's 'Lost in Life'

Here’s a new dope track from Backtrack to have you prepared for the release of 'Can't Escape' 7". The ep gonna drop on December 17th by Bridge Nine Records.
